As to the delayed final video

As to the delayed final video review for Carrigator, all three reviews and their videos were finished at the same time by me. However, Josh was gearing up for both SDCC and the East Coast Summit, so he was crazy-busy and had no time. He only just squeezed in the vid for "Transformers Animated" Megatron (Earth Mode), but I've had to wait on Engine-Oh G6 and the MantanGun's videos for several weeks.
(Actually, I haven't sent him the MantanGun's review yet because he's been so backlogged...)

oh boy

As you said, it has been a time when 6 mecha combo was extremely rare, and seven mecha even more. But recently, it just seems like a mecha fest! i mean Boukenger/ Operation Overdrive and now Go-onger with 10-12 component. It's almost twice as much as the first Ultrazord! And no matter how many 'bots they throw in, no combination is as cool as the first few (or even the hurricanger one). It just look like their are dropping component in top of each others...

"Awww man, that's one ugly zord..." Tommy about BA Drivemax Megazord (and possibly Engine-oh G12).

Awesome finds, saga_gx!

Awesome finds, saga_gx! I'd seen them before, but not that clearly.

I couldn't agree with you more, Christopher. I'll not say again why I agree (because I've done it several time on CDX already), but I've been hearing rumblings for quite a while now- at least since "AbaRanger". Notice that it's because of all these multi-component series that spoil it, and it's been getting steadily worse over time. Particularly with- as you pointed out- "Boukenger", which was a really bad fall IMHO for the Super Sentai Series.

. . .

BTW, I'm beginning to see an odd trend here: The separate Engines are hit-and-miss, the basic 3-part combos are pretty good, and then the super combos suck because they're just stuck together awkwardly.

From what I can see of those pics that saga_gx pointed out, Engine-Oh G12 (that is what it's going to be called) may use up all of the the extra connection points on Engine-Oh that I've been pointing out for a while now, so it may be the end of the Engine line. If they make a 13th Engine, I suspect the only place left to go is a carrier or possibly an individual transforming character of some kind. There is a rather-large transforming Tackle Boy/Warrior Wheel-inspired DX figure also on the way, but I doubt it's gonna be labeled #13.

I believe the rumour is its going to be a weapon like Zuban was in boukenger.

but about this toy... personally this just screams cluster f**K and G9 and 12 even more so and that's a shame I kinda like the idea of a robot made up of lots a smaller parts.

Years ago, I considered

Years ago, I considered writing a completely original fanfic called "Power Rangers Star League", and the Zord System I was going to use was based on the [later] "GekiRanger"/"PR Jungle Fury" system of armor upgrades rather than the now-traditional limb-swapping. ("GekiRanger" beat me to the armor system idea, and I screamed "Noooooooooooo"!)
Though it would have used nearly 11 components, four of those were Megazords that separated into several smaller parts, and would form specialized armor around the lead 5-part Megazord. (So, there would have been at most five specific-colored Megazords trouncing around the battlefield at once- each capable of changing into a super vehicle commanded by one Ranger.)
Oh, and there would have been a humanoid-shaped Ultrazord that could actually walk about!

Well... the carrier Zord- which had both a flight and Megazord mode- would have appeared very late on the story since it actually belonged to the villain!

I don't know- looks interesting to me. And big too! Plus it carries a customized Engine Soul, so it'll be interesting to hear the back story on this guy.

Looks like Engine-Oh G12 shoots it off for a finisher, just like the OhBlocker (from "OhRanger") did with Tackle Boy. Notice that it has what looks to be shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee joints that pose in a human way-! Definitely an update of the Tackle Boy... I think I may get it.

Have you decided yet on

Have you decided yet on whether or not you'll get the Highway Buster set?

And, um, do you have plans to review any of the Kamen Rider henshin belts?

In reverse order:

In reverse order:

I am still fairly new to the Kamen Rider series- having fully seen only "...Blade", "...Kabuto", "...Den-O", and I've taken a break from the current "...Kiva"- in the last three years, so you won't get much out of me there. I may watch "...555", but I'm still undecided. I have no interest in anything that came from before that, nor in "...Hibiki". (I'm more of a giant transforming robot-fan, so shows like this need to have something really appealing to get me to spend time on it.)
Now, so far, I only have two Kamen Rider toys- the DenLiner Gouka which I've already covered from "...Den-O", and a DX Henshin Bracelet TheBee Zecter from "...Kabuto".

The only- thee only- reason I haven't covered the TheBee Zecter is because the provided yellow Velcro strap doesn't fit around my wrist. So I've been keeping an eye out for Velcro strap-replacements for several years now, but had no success in finding anything like I need. (This is also the reason I haven't covered the Electronic Zeonizer from "Power Rangers Zeo" yet either... and I really like that one!)

I would like to get both the DX Garren Buckle (I'd need to find a replacement belt strap option for that) & DX Garren Rouser from "...Blade", but I don't have the money to even consider looking for them. I'm also leaning towards finding a DX Hopper Zecter from "...Kabuto", but that isn't a high priority right now. And I would like at least the Action Liner Series #2- DenLiner Isurugi train car & DX Zero Gassher from "...Den-O", and that is really all I'm interested in from any of the series I've seen thus far.

. . .

As for the DX Highway Buster, I've been too caught up in other things right now, like trying to secure the three parts of the DX-sized Seiku-Oh. Like I said, the only draw from it for me is Bear-RV's Engine Soul, and that's not enough motivation to justify the cost of getting it right now.

Why- you interested in covering it...? ;)

Mugenbine its kinda like

Mugenbine its kinda like Lego and mecha combined. Early toys gave you a tiny robot and then a whole load of armour parts to do with what you want but most gave you at least 2 combinations of a vehicle or animal with some coming with extra heads to use when you combined the sets

New sets have done away with the tiny robot core and just give you a whole load of parts themed around knights, samurai and even an Egyptian style that are sold as candy toys and when you collect the whole set you can combine them

I'm a little undecided on

I'm a little undecided on that last 3 part gattai.
Can't say I loved the idea when I first heard it, the train concept was fine but I don't see why they're suddenly going for dinosaurs. I've warmed a little now I've seen the design but am still unconvinced. That wheel though seems like an interesting addition.

As far as the G12 goes I completely agree with everything that's already been said. The G9 is already busy enough (and quite why Jetoras and Toripter are required to just sit on the shoulders is beyond me) and from watching the show it seems its suit is too bulky to do much fighting in. I can't see the G12 doing much more than showing up and immediately going for its finisher.

I do quite like the Go-Onger line overall but here's hoping that next year will see more of a back to basics approach.

While I agree that having

While I agree that having ancient animal-themed train cars isn't all that appealing, I would have been disappointed if trains had not been used; in fact, the last theme they still have to cover is water- like boats & submarines.
As for the dinos, I agree- a bad theme to use here- saying that steam trains are dinosaurs does make for a good pun, though.

Well, consider that after

Well, consider that after its introduction, the 10-part Ultimate DaiBouken was used at the drop of a hat, and frequently lost after both the intro of the three-part Siren Builder and was discarded almost completely when the DaiVoyager was used. Now that I call "weak"!

Wasn't ultimate daibouken a 10-part ? Sure it was crap but this guy is a 7 rangers (and maybe even 9 rangers) controlled mecha, with 2 more components. Ultimate Daibouken sucked but this is just... wrong!

"We need Ultrazord power! Now!" Jason, calling on the ultrazord, in a time when ultrazord still meant something...

Christopher Andre's picture

Actually, Ultimate

Actually, Ultimate DaiBouken was ten components and five rangers; Bouken Silver never boarded anything other than Gougou Fire [for Siren Builder] and Gougou Commander [in the Gougou Voyager for the Voyager DaiBouken ultra-combo].

However, bringing up Siren Builder suddenly has me worried... With the exception of Carrigator and Jumboale(sp?), all Engines use a Go-Onger in the cockpit when they're full grown; though this has been show once to not be required to the lowered performance of that Engine. We also know that Go-On Black has Carrigator's Engine Soul, and Go-On Gold Jumboale's.
So unless Go-On Red, Blue, and Yellow are taking on more partners, are we gonna see an eighth Go-Onger in control of all those three train-shaped Engines?

About that...

According to distributor catalogs, one of the new weapons will attach to the MantanGun, so I assume that the original 3 will be getting new partners.

YuushaFan's picture

Yeah- the railroad

Yeah- the railroad crossing-guard swords. They attach as accessory to the barrel of the MantanGun to form an extended-barrel rifle. But that's the part that makes me undecided. Like I said earlier, this new line of thought was brought on when I realized how similar Siren Builder was to this new one.

BTW, do we have a name for this new 3-part combo and the Engines in it?

That's a bingo!

KyouretsuOh is made up of Engine Kishamoth, Engine Tyrraine, and Engine Ceraine. The KyouretsuOh set will have Kishamoth's Engine Soul, while the Kankanbar (those railroad crossing swords) set will have both Tyrraine and Ceraine's Souls.

Plus, that big wheel thing is known as the Goroader GT.

I seem to remember hearing

I seem to remember hearing rumours of an 8th team member (not sure if we're actually talking a Go-Onger as such or just an ally of some form) who would control the new Engines. Supposedly he would be bronze in colour to finish off the Olympic themed colourscheme they've had going on this year. Certainly the Engine design backs up the colour (otherwise I'm surprised they're just not red, blue and yellow again), plus the fact that we're talking about a train means there only needs to be one person driving.

O.o!

I didn't even think about it that way- the coloring scheme matching the 2008 Olympics...! You're absolutely right! How'd I miss that? Guess you can't see the forest among the trees.

I haven't heard of an 8th ranger yet. Any pics of this?
And you're also right about having one new ranger piloting the mammoth/steam engine and just dragging the other two being, but being the partner of all three.

EVA_Unit_4A's picture
Posted by EVA_Unit_4A on 22 August, 2008 - 18:20
Huh?

I assure you, this is the first time I've ever heard of an 8th Go-Onger! I think it's more logical to assume that the three primary rangers will receive upgrades, since the Kankanbar will be able to combine with the MantanGun.

YuushaFan's picture
Posted by YuushaFan on 22 August, 2008 - 18:31
Yeah- me too. But

Yeah- me too. But consider this...

Either:

A) the three Go-Onger receive an upgrade [or don't upgrade], and are assigned these three new Engines;
B) one new ranger appears to control three Engines, and brings the crossing-guard swords with him; or-
C) The three Go-Onger get the crossing-guard swords, which give them access only to that smaller wheel-shaped Engine

Now, not to degrade Super Sentai anymore than it does itself after the mess that was the Gougou Vehicles line, I find the latter two more likely. To upgrade the Go-Onger, give them the swords, and then give them puny-ass Engines doesn't make sense plot-wise.
Plus, we know for certain that Engines cannot merge together to form any combos unless there are at least two rangers involved in the cockpit(s). Now, if they wish to bend that last rule, and give three Engines and their single combo to a single ranger, then I guess that would be okay. But giving the three Go-Onger an upgrade, and then three Engines smaller than what they have now seems detrimental to how mecha upgrades work in Super Sentai on average.

You got a point here

After all, super sentai has always been about teamwork. If this become a free for all mecha party, the very concept of the show would be forgotten.

No pictures sadly, it's only

No pictures sadly, it's only a rumour and may in fact be somebody's wild theory. As I said it may not be an actual Go-Onger we're talking about but rather something else. Possibly like Kakuranger's Ninjaman but with mecha, or maybe similar to Hurricanger's Shurikenger.

I also suspect that the new Engines will not necessarily be from the Machine World. The fact that they're dinosaurs makes me wonder if maybe they come from another of the 11 dimensions that apparently exist and maybe different rules apply to their gattai.

"...Btw, I think this review might have the most comments ever."

You may not be far from the truth... The longest comment thread I'd seen before this (25 posts) was about moe and "Evangelion"'s legacy during the review for Revoltech Fraulein Rei Ayanami about two months ago.

. . .

But, consider how little we actually discuss Super Sentai in here. Not that I have a problem with this, of course, but we haven't really vented our ideas (I almost said 'feelings') on how "Go-Onger" is faring.
Besides, Engine-Oh G12 is/will be the new record-holder for most individual component mecha in a single combination in Super Sentai- a record broken only two years ago, and before that nearly 15 years previously with seven [in "ZyuRanger"]!

But, we're also getting complaints about the direction the saga has been headed these last 5-6 years now- limb-swapping has revolutionized the design of the mecha, and now people are speaking up with great concern for a franchise which has been around for over 32 years. It takes quite a bit to shake foundations as strong as this, and this, I would say, is "quite a bit". It's been growing ever since "AbaRanger" returned with limb-swapping, and it hasn't really let up except perhaps with "MagiRanger" in '05.

Limb-swapping is not the problem...

Limb-swapping is not really the problem here IMHO.Thing is it's not even limb swapping like in gao or aba (and even not like bouken), there are just throwing stuff in top of one another. Look at G-12! I mean, you almost can't see the head anymore! it's lost between the go-on wings mechas, the mammoth stuff and jumbowhale... Gunpherd, Birca, jetoras and Toripter are just sitting there like useless etc... This thing is wrong. At least, in Ultimate Daibouken, extra mecha looked like they had something to do there. Now, they look like they are just parasites.

On the DX Kyouretsu-Oh...

Regarding the three-part train combo, I just found a Japanese picture review on it...

I am now seriously questioning whether I'm going to spend the money on it or not. What I may end up doing is waiting for the Deluxe-sized version to come to the US during "Power Rangers R.P.M.", and then get that cheaper version. 'Cause, I tell ya, that Kyouretsu-Oh doesn't look all that promising in ANY of the three modes.
The Engine-Oh G12 doesn't fare any better too...
