Well, the thing with Macross having all this cool technology in 2008 is because most of that tech came from the Macross crashing in 1999, right? So obviously their timeline would differ from ours. Speaking of predictions of the future from the 1980s: I got bored and watched part 7 of the Bubblegum Crisis "Double Vision" yesterday. As the truck with the crab mecha is driving up to the G&B building in the beginning of the show, it stops for gas. The driver pays with a 10$ bill and a 1$ bill. Maybe gas prices go down in 2038? Going back to the original Macross series, I don't think anyone owned a personal computer and they definitely didn't use cellphones. I haven't seen Macross Zero, so I don't know if they went back and put those in. I absolutely LOVED Macross Zero. It's in my top 3 Macross series. I tend not to listen to the show mainly because I tend to disagree with your takes on the subject tackled but I couldn't resist listening to this show as I did like it and wanted to hear how bad you tear it apart. Surprisingly you weren't as hard on it as I thought you would have been. I think a lot of Jeremy's criticism as to the ending and what it was all about and how it fits into the bigger picture has yet to be revealed in the bigger story yet... I have been suspecting that Zero is tied into Frontier and low and behold a few episodes back they did show the "birdman" in the opening prologue and just after listening to your podcast I watched the latest episode of Macross Frontier (Episode 9 to be exact) and the preview for the next episode (Episode 10) is called "The Secret of Zero" and looks like Frontier characters are on that Pacific Island (Not sure how yet but they ARE making a connection somehow between Zero and Frontier.) My personal uneducated guess.... the "birdman" from Zero was sent to earth by the Protoculture to test Humanity when it began to cross the stars, which is who I think the mysterious "Purple-1" mecha pilot is from that has been showing up in recent Frontier episodes. *****if your not watching Macross Frontier that last paragraph makes no sense I know. If you are not watching Frontier you SHOULD be, it's really good stuff.****** Anyway good podcast even though you two are a couple of cranky pants. ___________________ I'm not a cranky pants. :( My own take on the ending is that it's not as obtuse as Jeremy makes it out to be. Although, I'm not sure if we should give it a pass just because of what Frontier is doing with the concepts now. Zero could stand to be a little tighter. I wonder if an actual movie version is in the works. Probably not though, since Plus got a movie because it was written to be a movie. I can only hope Frontier's take on Zero is just as funny as 7's take on DYRL. Maybe they'll use that rooftop VF-1 to represent the VF-0 haha. -Andrew I agree that a movie version could tighten it up a bit, though I would need to re-watch the series to be able to discuss the finer points of the arguments. It's been a good year since I watched it. I'm not suggesting a pass for it being used in Frontier but a wait and see as far as if it comes full circle or not. If what Jeremy says is correct and Zero was a test bed/test reel to get Frontier going maybe the creators knew going into Zero they would call back to events in it when Frontier got going. I would disagree with you on the Macross 7 statement; I personally found what little of 7 I could get through pretty too far removed from what I found attractive in the Macross franchise as far Science Fiction goes. If Frontier devolved into that level of camp I would be pretty disapointed. The fan service Frontier does devolve too as far as the woman in the show go is at moments borderline for my taste. While Frontier does have a "good" sense of humor it is not campy, I expect it to get rather thoughtful and seriously executed when we get to the "meat" of what is going on in the bigger scope of the story. ___________________ A mediocre show does not become a good show because another series five years later tries to explain its badly executed ending. You can't give it a pass because someone tried to clean it up later. -Jeremy Well, if Macross Zero is happening right now (2008), then you better live it up while you can. 98% of us will be dead in 2010 when episode 27 of the original Macross happens. So for the HK subs for the original Getter Robo, Michiru is called "Man", which is pretty funny I guess. I watched Macross Zero about 2 years ago or something. I don't remember liking it all that much, the only thing I remember liking was Akira Kamiya returning and some of the mech designs. Oh yeah, if you're gonna read out feedback, at least pick out ones that AREN'T THE LONGEST THING EVER WRITTEN. Andrew, the idea of that is as old as the Nazis... Here goes an image of the crazy looking Mistel: http://www.aeronautics.ru/archive/wwii/photos/gallery_005/Mistel%201%20-%20Bf%20109F%20&%20Ju%2088.jpg In my opinion, the VF-0 with the ghost on top looks nice, I love its profile. ..NXS.. Yeah, I am aware of the idea that it's not a new idea. I just love the jury-rigged nature of the VF-0. I also think the VF-0 plus the Ghost looks really cool. Otherwise I wouldn't have the toy. -Andrew I think macross zero was the 2nd macross thing I've seen (the first being macross plus that I really liked)I wasn't won over with the story but I didn't care much I just liked it for the Roy moments and the robots. I sorta wish they would of just made it a show about Roy he was far more interesting then that other guy. saying that Frontier seems to have his zentrati copy cat in the show with Michael Blanc so I might get what I wish for from him. I'd say Michael's a fair bit different from Roy. characters all the time... Ozma is Roy, Princess(alto) is Hikaru, Michel is Max. Off course there is a twist to them, Michel is kinda bitchy and Princess (alto) is more depressed than 'i dunno what am i doing here' hikaru. that;s why i love it, in the end..... ::::REACTIVE ARMORED:::: |
