While it's OK, I still prefer Medicom's Real Action Heroes version coming out in August. It will be my first 12" figure. Still waiting to see HLJ's preorder on that one...

And yes, GunBuster does rock. it's a little campy and has some unneeded fan service, but when it comes to Sci fi, it is a classic, one of the best, and one of my favorites animes ever.

I agree completely. Luckily, she wears that outfit les and less as the show continues. This is also one of my favorites, SAC is beautiful.

This is all my own opinion of course,but with the possible exception of Philip K. Dick's books,Gunbuster is the sci fi pinnacle. Of course,I'm biased since I like mecha and kaiju so much,but of course I'm sure most people visiting this site are also into those things.
I just started watching Gunbuster 2 (Diebuster in Japan) and while I like it,it's pretty much totally different,basically FLCL in space. I have to say though,it works for 2008 the same way Gunbuster worked for 1988.

"Best science fiction story of all time, period"...that's a strong recommendation! Yeah, I'm not really into anime that much, but from the very little I know about the show, there's a really, really big robot (that just doesn't look very interesting to me), and a lot of young girls with bouncy boobs drawn by Mikimoto Haruhiko (Macross' character designer). Just those two data have not enticed me to spend the time to watch the show...and maybe I'm missing out. That'd be a shame. Maybe I'll give the show a shot.
Really stoopid how unnecessary sexism like "hot chicks in short pants" will do that!
Jeremy, I love random pot-shots at George Lucas! But how do ya figure on this one? Is King George known for his love of scantily-clad babes in scifi attire?

Sanjeev,you could really say that about a lot of anime shows,unfortunately. IMO,Aim for the Top! Gunbuster is the best science fiction story of all time,period. Yet I'm sure plenty of people (women mostly) see the hot chicks in short shorts and pass on the series without really giving it a fair shake.

I still prefer the Manga style to the anime. You just can't beat the Shirow-illustrated woman.

Oh, sure, there've been far more unrealistically well-endowed girlie figures featured on this site...but it's just so odd seeing this character portrayed thus. I'm still trying to watch Stand Alone Complex, and it's definitely NOT vapid throw-away entertainment. It's a really complex political/cop drama. I think the whole male-fantasy-tough-but-hot-chick thing only does the show a disservice.
