NYTF08: Mattel - Speed Racer

Mattel has the license to produce toys from the upcoming SPEED RACER movie, and they are definitely making the most of it. It's a logical step - they put out both Hot Wheels and Matchbox Toys.

The Mach 6 and Battle Rig set looks pretty cool

Race & Flip cars

They are making a Hotwheels Car for each racer in the movie - each has an accessory.

Some of these tracks are insane

But judging by this screenshot from the movie, these tracks may not be too far off.

The Race-A-Round sound helmet is motion activated

The Battle Morph Mach 6 is equipped with a ton of tricks, and is the only vehicle with a figure in this scale.

The classic Mach 5 is also well-represented

Even Funkeys get in on the act...

Any idea if any of the larger scale Mach 5 toys have any working gimmicks, such as pop out auto jacks or buzz saw blades etc? It'd be soo awesome if the radio control one could actually do an auto jack hop..

Bah.

Although...that Battle Rig looks pretty hot...

Still, toys of the classic are pretty much all I'll be interested in. And unless they make a super-gimmicky larger-scale Mach 5 that can do all the things it could in the show, I'ma stick with the standard 1/43 Hot Wheels.

Cars with Microman-scale figures?
