Exactly - I get the impression that "Shockertoys" (who I assume now is Geoff Beckett, their president) thinks all those people were just trashing the figures you know, for the sake of trashing them. Not taking into account that they (and myself) were fans who just wanted some cool toys, and instead were given these - and the reaction was based on that.

He's just really defensive it seems, while on the other hand saying "I am mad that this product was not such high quality" (direct quote from that tfw thread) - I wonder if he puts that nice little caveat on the order form page over at shockertoys.com where they are still selling these (or at least Murderface) things, eh?

This company seems to not really have its act together at all though, especially based on this sort of reactionary blog-hunting he's doing. Shame too, they have some licenses to some cool stuff that we'll probably never see.

Glad you got a laugh though!

Hahha...that is some heavy stuff! I just got done reading the thread on TFW2005 and the comment Shocker posted there and on your site. Your reply (on your site) pretty much hits the nail on the head for me.
Now, I've never met anyone from Shocker. I've never fallen victim to their...questionable...marketing. I only heard about the Gwar fiasco at SDCC after the fact. So, I have no beef with these guys. There's nothing political or anything about what I have to say about them or these toys.
I'm one thing and one thing only: a toy collector (well, in this context!). I don't care about the accounts of sleaziness or whatever. Like you said, all I want is a kickass set of Metalocalypse figures.
And, again like you said, if their "real" run of figures rocks hard, then I'll be all about 'em. But for right now, I don't think folks are exactly brimming with confidence regarding this company. I know I'm not.
Shocker responds

You might get a kick out of this:

I came across this review from a post over at the tfw2005 boards, discussing the toys. Further, I made a quick post about it on my own site, linking to this review and citing the toys less than stellar appearance etc.

Find in my mailbox this morning a request for comment approval on my blog from SHOCKERTOYS (no idea who it is, but it's def. someone from the company because of the email/approval process). Oh brother. You can click the link above, but yeah, basically the faults don't matter because they aren't the official toys, and they weren't happy with them either etc etc. DON'T LOOK BEHIND THE CURTAIN I AM THE GREAT AND POWERFUL OZ, right?

I'm really "shocked" a company would go on record saying basically what they said in their reply though, at the very least this sort of agitated defense/spin, and it definitely inclines me to warn my fellow comic creators about ever giving Shocker a license in the future. EEK!

ps: don't hold that "shocked" joke against me, I'm just as embarrassed to have written it as you are to have just read it ;)

Warrhead, nice to see you posting over here! Dude, that comment may be one of the most brilliant things I've read in a while! Haha!
Yes, it seems like everything they come up with in the show is absolute crap (besides the music, of course, which I actually dig)! One of my favorite bits was when they actually used those spiky cell phones to kill the troll. Hilarious!
So, yeah, taken from that point of view, yes, these toys are absolutely perfect in their crapiosity!!
;)
Actually, No- I don't remember that since I've never seen this show before. (Never even heard of it, but then it doesn't exactly sound like my cup o' tea neither.) I was just commenting on how you really liked a show, and then a product based on it was so repulsive, yet you reviewed it so that others would not be as let down as you were.

The funny thing is how well this keeps in the spirit of the show. All of Dethkloks products suck. Remember the spiky phone that only had one line, with anytime minutes that start at 11pm? I can picture Nathan saying "Action figures with no articulation, can't stand, and with crappy paint for $20 a pop? Brutal."

I understand your pain, Sanjeev... I have yet to collect something more repulsive than that Deluxe Drive-Max Megazord I covered. I don't waste my money and time on things that I don't like for my collection just because it's part of a specific line, but that was a super-rare exception that I knew I would be rid of soon thereafter. I was tempted to wear rubber gloves when posing it in front of the camera!
