I voted yes, because, though we also do it at RJ and TBDX generally, I find it interesting to see what the different members of various boards and sites like the most. Just like various car magazines have their picks each year for each of their favorite vehicles, I don't see why various toy sites couldn't do it as well. Not to mention, CDX caters to so many different genres of toys other than just robots, even if only occasionally. Actually, it was because of that wide variety that I voted "No". I mean, this is such a huge market, to say that one is the tops above all others is almost-degrading and disrespectful in some cases! If we did a CDX vote, we'd have, like, a hundred different poesable figures going up against a hundred non-poesable figures going up against a hundred transformable figures going up against a hundred playsets. And you're telling me that out of all that, you'd pick one to be the best? Sorry. "No" I said, and "No" I stand by. It looks like the public is voting resoundingly yes, but I agree, it is hard to put a $20 revoltech against a $150 SOC. Categories would be good - Maybe best toy under $50, $100 and over $100? Toys would have to have been released in 2007, but thats about the only rule. How does that sound? ------------------------------ Sounds good to me. I kinda have my own list, but I like to see some consensus. Sometimes it reveals something you missed. ----- I think something that might set it apart from other TOTY polls (and make the size vs. price point vs. type points irrelevant) would be to nominate a group of 10-20 toys, then apply a 1-5 star system to each item- kind of like Michael Crawford's review website- with articulation, value, accessories, action feature, metal content, etc... This way, a SOC and a Revoltech could stand on even ground in a way (the perceived dollar-to-toy ratio - a cheapy $15-20 Revoltech might be worth every penny, and the $150 spent on a SOC could be 100% worth it too, but maybe that other Gokin was $50 too much, or that Transformer was trash for $14 ...) ...something i noticed nobody does - Reissue of the year! Sometimes i miss stuff from years before and only get it when it's reissued. It would be nice to note when companies do the "right thing" and re-release a really cool toy.
perhaps "classic of the year"? a vintage piece that was reviewed in 2007 on CDX, maybe something considered super-special, or a "if you collect, and dont have this by 2007, you're crazy" type of a toy.
and a "review of the year" - to celebrate the hard work of the CDX staff. To show some love to the writers who give me toy goodness every day, and save me tons of $$$ every year, so i don't buy the bad stuff!
cheers, r Ha! I didn't think of it that way! Whats wrong with being silly? ------------------------------ Vote! Vote! Vote!Vote! Vote! Vote!Vote! Vote! Vote!Vote! Vote! Vote!Vote! Vote! Vote!Vote! Vote! :) ___________________ What you just did is close to spam... ;) ------------------------------ You can't have a popular vote because no self respecting pirate will vote for anybody other than himself!!! seriously, a TOTY sounds fun. Voted "yes" but now you've got me thinking. The problem is that opinions are limited to the toys that people actually managed to buy. So the more accessible merchandise found in stores like Toys r Us, will probably rate higher than merchandise that can only be found in specialty and online stores. Oh well, maybe thats part of it. "Dinobots, destroy Devestator!"-Optimus Prime TFTM I voted yes too but like everyone says its not as simple as that. How about categories based on price points, then the winner of each go head to head, and from there we choose an overall winner? I think Josh's suggestion works best as it could get over complicated, plus not everyone will be happy... |
