Flame
You may know of RoseArt from their various arts and crafts products, such as Funtastic Fingerpaints or The Real Chocolate Fountain. They have also had some success with their magnetic building toy Magnetix. Roseart decided to branch out into action figures based on the cool Magnetix sets. Dubbed Magnaman, the figures are about 5 inches tall, and come packaged in attractive window boxes. The figure is a neat concept. The joints are magnetic balls, and each part can be separated and attached in different combinations. The head has a blinking light that is activated when attached to the body. The plastic is kind of soft, almost a translucent orange rubber. Flame comes with a sword, spear, 2 guns and a shield. All weapons can be held in the hands except for the shield, which replaces a hand via a magnetic connector. One can make the obvious connection to the vintage Micronaut magnetic figures like Baron Karza, and even the figures' design is very 70's influenced. I really wanted to like this toy. Unfortunately, it kind of sucks. The main issue with the toy is that the magnets are not strong enough to hold any kind of pose. Standing the thing up is a chore, and if you pick it up by the waist, the legs will fall off. It is just too fidgety for anyone to really enjoy. If RoseArt is reading this, listen up. You could have a really cool toy on your hands here, but you need to work on it a little more. Make the bodies hollow, or at least not as heavy, and make your magnets stronger! Magnaman has the potential to be an excellent toy line. Submitted by JoshB on 23 November, 2005 - 13:00. |
