I...I just...

Sorry, Kaiyodo, this looks cool but I just can't bring myself to buy and display a robot that has a giant boner in its pants. It's just not gonna work. I know you guys are trying to branch out from Getter Robo and I like that, I support that idea, I really do, but if I put this on my desk at work I will be laughed off the face of the Earth.

Wow, I was just about to say this is really cool and I don't know what it's from but I want one.

And then I read your comment and saw the willie-gun. WTH.

That is the worst place in

That is the worst place in the world to put a (dare i say it) cockpit !!. My friends tried endlessly to get me to play Zone of the enders, but this one small issue grossed me out entirely. Sad too, cut that thing off and it could have looked like a really cool mech. I wonder if that actually happens in the game, haha. Also, ironically, whenever the mech would fly in the game, the cockpit would be raised UP so the pilot would have a better view. Makes you wonder what the designer of this mech was doing at this time when he thought up these ideas :S.

Really amuses me every time I read that sort of comments in which people struggle to look at robot weapons from the point of view of human anatomy. Robot have no genitals which means they can put whatever improves the mech's performance there.

Seriously. No matter what it is, as long as its long and protruding from the crotch piece people get crazy and "Oh noes! That's indecent and gross!" Maybe if this was a hentai with the robot being "All Terain Rapist Unit BD-XXL-12" I'd object as well, but with military machines all is game as long as it works to the machine's combat effectiveness and only the designers can really tell about that as the guys coming up with the specs.

I seriously wonder if VF-1 Valkyries had a similar reaction seeing how a huge nosecone is hanging between their legs, and in Yamato's 1:48 toys you could take them off to reveal what's underneath. Or what people thought about some Mobile suits having vernier thrusters and weapon mounts sticking out of there.

I have mixed feelings on the matter. Maneuvering thrusters and cockpits (I'm looking at you, Turn-A Gundam...) I can understand, and of course combat functionality take priority.

But... c'mon-! How can any artist put such an obvious protrusion- certainly one parallel to the ground it walks on- there and then not expect people to react to it? Same things goes for thin waists and boobs on 'female' mecha- why should war machines have gender designations beyond endearing terms to begin with?
(The cyborg Evangelion Units, BTW, all intentionally had androgynous physical features and proportions when mecha designer Ikuto Yamashita created them.)

I always wondered what the point of skirt armor was.

Sometimes units are custom

Sometimes units are custom built for the taste of their pilots, like Viola's Orbital Frame or Nobell Gundam, which probably reflects how they want their mechs too look (Viola probably wants her enemies to know they were beaten by a woman), but sometimes it is a mystery indeed.

Speaking of Gundam, Char's Nightingale from novelisatiom of Char's counterattack also had this huge front pylon that looks like you know what. Ex-S Gundam's Mega Smart Gun rested on a mount coming from his crotch. Re-ZELs all have catapult hooks that look like morning wood XD

Skirt armor is in fact a wise design aspet, as the protect the crotch-mounted leg joints from easy attacks since to move there is no outer frame in the critical, weakest spots. That's also why many Gundams have extra ankle panels and their knee guards move up as they bend to protect exposed inner frame joints.

No no, I completely

No no, I completely understand and approve of flexible armor for covering joints. I mean, what would the Ex-S be without those monsters on its knees?

Something small and simple like the RX-78 and Gaia Gundam's hip guards is just fine, but when you have something that reaches all the way down to the knees and even has vernier thrusters on it, that's where I draw the line!

The first Zone of the Enders

The first Zone of the Enders game came out about a DECADE ago...2001 wants it's jokes back.

Dick jokes aside, I've been waiting years for an Anubis figure. Pre-ordered immediately, along with the Jehuty recolor. Time for the Vic Viper next(orbital frame version, natch)?

Vic Viper

That would be the orbital frame I'll love to get from Revoltech, as long as it can transform into it's flight mode.

Aren't transformable revoltechs a dark and twisted road?

IIRC, the only transformable

IIRC, the only transformable Revoltech we've had so far are VF-1 Valkyries.

ZOE Vic Viper

If I remember the Vic Vioer transformation isn't that complicated, particularly compared to the Valkyrie.

Suggestive designs in robots

Suggestive designs in robots goes all the way back to the Mazinger girl robots and if you really want to go old school you can even bring up the movie Metropolis from 1927. It's no big deal and obviously it's intentional, you can say it's so and so design reflection for a certain character but really if the mecha designer wants to put a giant boner on their robot design they will, the same way they put giant breasts on robots which technically have no sexual identity except for the perception people put on them. But from a pure technical viewpoint while it may aid in piloting a robot to have a cockpit in that location, it's also the most exposed area with the cockpit protruding from the main body the farthest and thus increasing it's chances of being damaged.
