MEGA BLOKS SHOWS ITS CANADIAN PRIDE WITH FIRST APPEARANCE AT FAN EXPO

Canadian fans to be immersed in the worlds of Mega Bloks construction sets

MONTREAL – (August 22, 2012) – MEGA Brands Inc. (TSX: MB) For the first time ever, Mega Bloks will be showcasing some of their most exciting lines of construction playsets at the 3rd largest pop culture event in North America: Fan Expo in Toronto. The Mega Bloks booth will welcome fans into the worlds of Mega Bloks Halo, Mega Bloks Power Rangers as well as the newly launched Mega Bloks World of Warcraft.

“As a Canadian company, we are particularly excited to be a part of Fan Expo”, said Vic Bertrand, Chief Innovation Officer at MEGA Brands. “We really look forward to connecting with our Canadian fans, giving them the chance to immerse themselves in some of our most popular brands and offering them exclusive giveaways and fun contests”.

The excitement doesn’t end there. Mega Bloks is creating the ultimate (and philanthropic) building experience at this year’s Fan Expo by transforming a section of their booth into a community build wall -- the Power Rangers MEGA Mural. Fan Expo guests are invited to visit the booth to add as many blocks as they wish to the mural in order to help build a giant Mega Bloks Power Rangers Red Ranger Mask. For this, participants will receive super-cool micro-action figure giveaways (while supplies last) and a chance to take a picture with the Power Rangers themselves!

A loyal supporter of the cause of autism, Mega Bloks will donate the Power Rangers MEGA mural to the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation after the event to recognize their dedication to children and families affected by autism.

To top it all off, Mega Bloks will also be bringing a very special guest to Fan Expo this year: towering over 10 feet high and made of over 375,000 Mega Bloks, the enormous Thrall build, a character from the World of Warcraft, will be on display for plenty of photo opportunities for both fans and press throughout the entire event.

For more information on Mega Bloks and their products, please visit their Fan Expo booth (#1238) at the Metro Toronto Convention Center from August 23rd - 26th or http://www.megabloks.com.

Um, wha?

"Canadian pride" for a cheap-ass rip off of Lego? It brings me to tears. Canadian pride is only properly directed at our constant chantings of "at least we aren't like the US!" while guiltily trying to emulate our southern neighbour at every opportunity. So maybe Mega Bloks is correct in their quote after all...

Cause

This Mega Bloks Project in the upcoming event is for a very important charitable cause. The article has made clear of that noble statement. Diseases like autism is a serious, & heartbreaking matter for any parent & child who are effected by this & this company, it's customers, & the hospital in Toronto need all the help they can muster by making this event happen.

It would be most appreciative & grateful if you would please be mindful & sincere of the objective & the feelings of the North American family members here on this website: Mega Bloks & CDX. If you're willing & able...see if you can make a donation to support Autism research thru the Mega Bloks website. Every cent counts to make a difference.

Nobility

We appear to have different understandings of the word "noble".
A noble cause is done for the cause alone. Did Bill Gates show up at E3 with a whole display of windows computers for sale when he made his contributions to cancer research?
A gigantic toy booth erected in the centre of Canada's largest toy/collectible event where millions of customers will hopefully come by and purchase the items they are selling is hardly noble. It is opportunistic and cheap, and for you to hide this behind a "think of the children" is naive.
To be precise, I was poking fun at the inferior product of Mega Bloks, not the "noble" cause the company is holding like a carrot over their toy displays.
Autism research is important, and my knowledge and experience in this area is an emotionally important cornerstone of my being. The... items Mega Bloks is donating is appreciated, but one weekend's worth of profit percentages won't make much of a difference. Dedicating all Mega Bloks' profits, even for only one month for the next ten years might. Now THAT would be noble.

A To D

CDX Member Rainbot: I must be honest here that you are the 3rd member here I've encountered on this website whose attitude I find cynical & I find that uncomfortable & discouraging.... I'm not sure what else to say but to agree to disagree... For the respect of the author's article, the community & this thread...so be it.

A to Z

CDX Member Diakron G1:  I am sorry you have had such negative experiences on this web site. While I can't specifically comment on the other two you mentioned, I will respond to my original post as being observational and realistic, with a tinge of humor thrown in. My second post is in direct response to your bizarre and inaccurate accusation of my apparent callousness towards those families who are burdened with special needs children.
If you are not an opportunistic employee of Mega Brands and honestly believe that I was harming families with autistic children , then no amount of logic will cure you of your delusion.
However, if you are really speaking as a concerned parent or friend of someone with autism and you are at Fan Expo this weekend, I'd be happy to buy you lunch and we can have a rational discourse about the subjects I spoke of. I happen to work in a field that helps facilitate employment opportunities for individuals with special needs.
Send me a PM and perhaps this will dispel your view of cynicism on this  website.
