Generic pile of kibble

Just like the Armored Core mechs, this seems so utterly generic that I just can't work up any interest in it. I appreciate Kaiyodo's attempt to branch out instead of giving us yet another rendition of Getter 1, but this is nothing but Generic Anime Robot.

I, on the other hand, have

I, on the other hand, have been quite excited for Muv-Luv mech designs to make it into toy form, despite having no real experience with the games/source material other than the anime's excellent opening theme by the ubiquitous JAM Project.

On a side note, since this is a general web shop exclusive, people interested shouldn't have any problem finding one, and there shouldn't be any mark-up in price compared to the harder to get exclusives.

Generic?

I can't see how this guy is generic, but I doubt I'll buy the revo any time soon since I own the Koto kit, and this set is NOT an exclusive but there is an exclusive version that includes an extra sword. (wow!)

FMP? Tekkaman Blade? Zone of Enders? Gundam 00?

This could have come from any of those series.

Now, I'm not saying it's an unattractive design, I'm just kind of wondering what the point is. It's boring. And it's getting away from the whole "real robots are real robots" thing.

This is supposed to be real

This is supposed to be real robot?? O_o? I would never have guessed that, and I've never seen the show this is in.

I really think it just comes

I really think it just comes down to personal taste. I mean, as for the 'it could have come from [blank]', it um, it really couldn't have. I'm not sure how literal you were being with that comment, but outside of Tekkaman (though I'm not familiar with any of the suits other than the titular character), this wouldn't fit in. It shares a lot more with Masami Obari designs (who also did Tekkaman). FMP and Gundam 00 share a designer, so there are similarities between those two shows, but to say that this design could stand next to a Yoji Shinkawa mech (ZOE, friggin' Metal Gear) and look like it belongs is crazy talk. This is coming from a big Shinkawa fan, so again, personal taste.

For the record, as far as my aesthetics go, I will go on record saying that Ordian (another Masami Obari joint), is the very bottom of my robot barrel.

So, someone fill me in.

I can normally tell where giant robots are from, but this guy eludes me. What the heck is a Muv-luv?

Muv-Luv is a pc erogame, one

Muv-Luv is a pc erogame, one popular enough that is has spread out to the usual media franchise of anime, manga, and video game consoles. The game takes place in two timelines; one is a straightforward dating adventure type scenario, the other is an alternate time-line taking place during an enormous alien invasion. Alternative is the sequel, taking place within the latter timeline of the first game. That's about all I really know of it, Wikipedia is shockingly informative regarding the game. The most I can sure for sure is that, again, the opening by JAM Project rocks, and that the game has some really traumatizing death scenes.

accurate

^Pretty much whats going on.

The game follows the a guy named Takeru Shirogane as he gets trapped in an alternate world where history is slightly changed, and aliens have killed off most of the worlds population, with no chance of survival.

Unlimited follows Takeru first arriving in this world and going from a weak smartass runt into a god-tier mecha pilot (thanks to video games) and ultimately the demise of the earth.

Alternative has Takeru looped back to the beginning of Unlimited with all his memories of doomsday, and hisattempt to change the future and find his childhood friend

It has the best story I've read in years but to get the the mecha goodness you have to sit through Extra, which is a generic comedy dating sim, though it has plenty of mecha references.
