I thought this is the Gundam of Gundams. Optimus Prime (Convoy) is one of those Gundam pastiches for many more to come.
I can't recall ever seeing that flip-over-the-shoulder gun before on the RX-78-2. Is that a set-exclusive, or part of an MSV?
flip it 180 degree.
No, RX-78-02 from Gundam Origin (as well as the GMs) hold its shield correctly that way, as depicted in linearts and the manga itself. Unlike RX-78-2 from the anime.
Of all the Gundam shows I've seen, I find the first one to be the best, so I'd really like to aquire this one, the design may not be the the best, but its meaning is enough reason to get it. Too bad the release date is so soon. Bandai for sure isn't giving us any space to breathe between their releases.
By the way, what's the difference between the RX78 and the RX78-02? Just details? Or I'm talking nonsense?
Apparently there is a difference between the RX-87-2 and the RX-78-02.
MAHQ.net's entry on the RX-78-02
*shrugs* Just sounds like a poorly-hidden excuse to market an old, classic design.
Yeah, I don't have much love for the RX-78-2 even though I acknowledge it as an important icon of giant robot anime. I prefer the muted colorings of the RX-87-3 "G3" Gundam even though I know that's just an MSV repaint.
There is a reason to make this. In the manga re-do of the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam Origin, they redesigned all the suits. And in case anyone hasn't heard by now, Gundam Origin is going to get an anime soon So there is a pretty good reason to make this.
You call yourself "evaunit01" and yet your avatar is a Gundam... O_o?
Wait, I thought Gundam ACE was the next series?
Gundam Ace-New series for the kiddies
Gundam the Origin-for the fans. No word on what it'll be (I imagine either OVAs or movies, definitely not a TV series).
Oh, so they're making two projects at once?
The new series is Gundam AGE. Ace is the monthly comic anthology.
Actually, it's 3 projects at once. The Gundam Unicorn OVAs, Gundam AGE, and whatever format Gundam Origin as an anime will take. Can you say cash cow?
Although I consider Evangelion the better work, I am a Gundam fan first and an Eva fan second. It's completely possible to like both series.
There were originally 3 prototype Gundams. Only one survived Char's raid at the beginning of the series, the eponymous "Gundam" of the show. Bits of the other two were cobbled into the testbed G-3 Gundam, which is the white and grey recolor that inevitably follows in future releases.
...and the G3 paved the way for the revolution of the RX-178 Gundam Mk.II Yeah, I've read that story.
Er...what?
There were two key features to the RX-178 which made it a revolution in MS construction and function: a magnetic coating on all joints to make them move more efficiently and faster, and a modular construction where more machinery was attached to the internal structure of the MS rather than having the armor just bolted onto it whilch made repairs and swapping entire limbs faster and more cost-effective. The first one- magnetic coating of the joints- was developed as part of the testing done on the RX-78-3 "G3" Gundam.
Argh, Eva, I know you mean well enough, but as someone who is a huge Gundam fan when you do this going off of secondhand info thing it drives me nuts. I don't really want to go into detail, so I'll try to keep this short: To say the G-3 is closer in relation to the Mark II than any other One Year War era mobile suit is bonkers. Magnetic coating was a new benchmark that became the standard for any mobile suit, and it was not a defining feature of the RX-178. What were, was the mentioned modularity of the movable frame, and the fully panoramic cockpit, neither which had anything to do with the original Gundam in any form.
I am trying to be gentle here, but it's pretty much the same thing as me speaking with authority about Evangelion, and I can promise that would be packed to the brim with misinformation and nonsense.
Edit: Also I don't know if this was clear, but my original response was towards Luiz. I interpreted it as a question about the '2' designation.
...Of course, I haven't seen MSG before, so I could be wrong. ^^;
Origin, Ace and isn't they still making Unicorn Gundam
Wha? They had a Composite Unicorn. Came out last year. Expensive.
I don't make impulse buys a lot, but when AmiAmi released this they put up a 30(!) picture gallery alongside of it, and after going through all of the images, not only was I sold, I was experiencing pure, untempered toy lust. I have to say, the Metal Composite RX78-2 Ver. Ka did not have anywhere close to the same impact.
Usually the only requirements I have for a Gundam figure are: Can I remove the head, Can I remove the arm, and Can it do a good looking A-stance, but I don't think I'll be trying to take this one apart.
...and will it blend?
They always do!
