High Grade G-Self from Gundam Reconguista in G Updated

G-Self Opinion

It's well past that time when the fans either cry out in rage or accept the G-Self with an air of humility. I think the Mobile Suit got off to a bad start with its announcement trailer only showing it from an angle that makes people think "Eureka 7, Studio Ghibli, and Turn A had a drunken sexy party together." However, this could be a good thing. 'Real' Gundam series are so gloomy it hurts just to like them sometimes, but at the same time the more upbeat ones can be a bit too much to handle too. Hopefully Tomino will find the right balance with this one: "A series for the children of Gundam fans."

Seeing the G-Self in this form (and an also recently revealed 'poster' shot), I'm willing to accept it. The design echos all of the successful points in Gundam Design from the past 35 years, the colors, the weapons, and even the flight pack. It's a stand alone machine with an number of accessory variations that no doubt Bandai will exploit.

Not to nit-pick but I'm still a little irked about the forked head crest in place of the traditional 'V-Crest.' Then again Turn A had the mustache and the AGE units all had spoiler fins on their heads too. So being different isn't a bad thing.

As a series-based High Grade, I can tell right from this image that you're looking at a lot of DIY paint work to do. Hopefully Bandai will apply some of what they're doing in the 'All Gundam Project' with this one!

I like some of the other suits like the Kattoshi (RGM looking one).

Also the cheerleader looks cute.

Hello Vifam!

The flight pack has that "a plane flew up my butt" look.

It definitely has a retro

It definitely has a retro flair. I'm still trying to figure out what to make of it, I see dragonar and exia in the design, but the lack of planar surfaces joined by sharp angles irks me a little bit, it makes the design seem lacking in nuance like it was sanded excessively. Something about it brings me back to those old 90s gundam x and wing kits
