Space Battleship Yamato DVD & Blu-Ray hitting shelves in Japan soon!

Space Battleship Yamato DVD & Blu-Ray is hitting shelves in Japan at the end of the month (June 24, 2011) and with no sign of the film getting stateside any time soon some folks may be considering importing these. The DVD releases are Region 2 and the Blu-Ray releases are All Region but sadly no English language track is available for either (not that we where expecting there to be one.)

Standard Edition DVD and Blu-Ray will be running  2500 yen and 4800 yen and include a trailer, teaser, and TV spot for special features.

Collector Editions of the DVD and Blu-Ray will be running 8800 yen and 9800 yen and inlucde more special features and collector items.

These include two bonus discs and Kodai's dog tag, cell phone strap with cleaner, two 3D photo cards and photo stand, pass case, booklet, and storyboard book (over 100 pages) (subject to change). Bonus discs in collector editions include making-of, talk between the director and Takuya Kimura, press conference footage, event footage, VFX's making-of, gallery of machines, and more (subject to change).

Question

Does the boxset includes English subtitles added to the special features?

Did anyone see this? I never

Did anyone see this? I never understood the appeal of turning animated films into live action films. Besides making money.

I saw it.

I saw it last December in Tokyo. I enjoyed it immensely...until Steven Tyler starts singing over the closing credits! Other than that glaring monkey wrench, I had a great time. They got a lot of things right. There were a few changes. For example Dr. Sado is a woman, and the Gamilus are more like the Xenomorphs from "Alien." All in all I was entertained. I grew up with the show, so I could follow the plot even with my "Pidgin Japanese" I'm going over there next month and I'm probably going to pick this up. I hope the American "Star Blazers" movie doesn't get made. That will just be a huge embarassment to all involved!
