Kotobukiya Teases a 1/400 scale Evangelion Unit 1 Model Kit.
Kotobukiya's blog recently showed a teaser for a possible Evangelion Unit 01 plastic model kit. They are taking great care in giving the kit maximum flexibility in the confines of an Eva Unit's characteristic lithe frame. They are looking to release it in 2013. Final price has not been determined.

Now, what are they doing about giving us a gap-less elbow joint?
...thought so.
So what's the official height they're using on this? Aren't Evas 40m tall? That would make this kit only 10cm tall, or four inches. 1/200 would be more reasonable...
From the looks of that display base, I wouldn't put that kit any higher than 7 inches tall. That looks like the same crane arm they released with the Jehuty and MuvLuv models.
Height in the series varied from 40 to 200 meters scene to scene, but in the Rebuild movies they are stuck at 80 meters. That would make this about 20 cm tall. The recent Real Action Heroes Eva would be roughly 1/200 scale.
This actually looks like a decent kit, but between the limited elbows, Kotobukiya plastic's general fragility, and the fact that there have been so many good Eva toys released recently, I can't say I'm interested in this.
Got to love hand drawn animation scaling quality that can't stay consistent until somebody does it in CGI (and even then it can't stay in tune), but plastic quality can always get better. I've noticed that Kotobukiya's plastic quality has improved over the years since their first generation of Super Robot Wars after handling the MG REX and starting their ZOE Jehuty.
As far as the arms are concerned for Eva, I don't see how they could have done better than Bandai's rubber wrapped arms from the old High grade kits. I think they're going by the example of the Revoltech figures by having the elbow joints so close to forearm so they can hide the hinge point.
