Power Rangers 2010!

"Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated"

Bandai America sends word of the future of the Power Rangers franchise:

"Despite some of the rumors circulating the web, the Power Rangers are not going away in 2010. Disney and Bandai America continue to be committed to the Power Rangers Brand. Disney is producing a Season 18 and Bandai America will continue to develop action figures and toys for fans and collectors of all ages.

In fact, Bandai America is asking fan’s to help choose the next Power Ranger chase figure through a poll with ToyFare. If you haven’t already done so, please vote at https://www.wizarduniverse.com/031209powerpoll.html

Over the past seventeen years, the Power Rangers have been on Earth, in space, on the moon, under water, traveling through time, in the jungle and anywhere evil lurks. They’ve battled Rita Repulsa, Divatox, Master Org, Dark Spector, Toxica, Jindrax and many more evil-doers – villains who have been shrunk to miniatures, tossed in jail, reduced to ooze or banished. As Bandai America looks to the future, the Power Rangers toy line will continue to morph into action battling against evil.

Oops...

-_-;

I fell for it.

Well, no- I didn't fall for it; but I was surprised that they would say that. I didn't hear anything beyond two admittedly-tabloid articles, but I figured that if nothing else has surfaced on the matter in previous years, then it might be true.

. . .

BTW, in that poll, I voted for the Red Wind Ranger from "Power Rangers Ninja Storm" (aka HurricaneRed from "Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger").

Awesome!

I've been a fan of Power Rangers since the very beginning; I was seven when MMPR premiered. The brand has had its ups and downs, and I think Bandai realized they screwed up when Transformers (quite rightfully) topped the Boys' Toys list in 2007 over the horrid Operation Overdrive line. The Jungle Fury and RPM lines are much better and bode well for the line's future.

Of course, I don't know how they're going to adapt the extremely Japanese Shinkenger for American audiences, unless they use the constant kanji imagery as an opportunity to teach kids the language...

Bandai America

I'm glad they plan on keeping the PR over here. I like the differences between the Asian versions and the American versions.
I know most of the time the American is not the same quality as the Asian but they make good display models most of the time.

I love some of the comments

I love some of the comments they've come up with for the poll site.

"C’mon, you know everyone wants to have the cheerleader. In Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, Kimberly, the Pink Ranger, was known for two things: her awesome gymnastic skills and being the only Ranger with a skirt! If you’re a Ranger geek, this Pterodactyl-powered beauty was probably your first crush."

Presumably only ranger with a skirt is code for only ranger who is actually a girl underneath the suit.

"The only Ranger composed of pure light, the Omega Ranger fought his way from the future to stand by the S.P.D. team. With a teleporting ability and critical knowledge from the future, the Omega Ranger stood firmly in the way of any evil, despite his non-corporeal form."

The only ranger that we couldn't afford to hire an actor for.

Anyway I'm not too surprised to see they're keeping going. What I've seen of Shinkenger isn't that hard to adapt. The kanji will easily be sidestepped by saying they're just symbols representing their elements, and they've made samurai references in previous seasons so that's not an issue. Not that the end product will be any good but it won't be worse than any other adaptation they've done.
