I saw this last night.

I saw this last night. Looks promising.

Wow- they also got Bruce Boxleitner to come back too. Awesome.

One little thing bugs me, though- smoke/dust cloudsin the digital world?
There's also a nice improvement on Syd Mead's work for the design style of the digital world- more gritty and detailed.

EDIT: wait, that's wrong- I just remembered that they had beards in the first film. My bad.

The digital world is created

The digital world is created by us in Tron. Given the graphic standards of such games as Final Fantasy 13, why would you be surprised to find that emulated in the digital world. Their world is evolving as we make more technological advances. They are made in our image after all.

No, it's not that. Like I

No, it's not that. Like I said, I like the more-detailed panels on the Recognizer, and the improvement on how Light Cycles 'splode. Just, I wonder if some of the artistry from the first is being lost in favor of dramatics. The same with females having more-provocative clothing designs that differ from males', when clearly in the first they were all the same (not including the 'morning-after' scene which didn't make it into the final cut).

Yes, it looks like an

Yes, it looks like an upgraded world of TRON, but it feels okay to me. I just hope they don't "special edition" the original.

Naw- Disney isn't known for

Naw- Disney isn't known for upgrading their films. They tend more towards remastering, but not major modifications.

...or they do a lot of direct-to-video, which- thankfully- ended a few years ago!

I was never a huge Tron fan

I was never a huge Tron fan but this does look pretty cool.

I wonder though if this is the first time MTV.com was used as a news source around here! LOL

I saw "Tron Legacy"

...last night. Not bad, not bad.

I had seen the first film years ago as a kid (several years after it had come out), and liked it then. But we lost the tape (broke?) and it was many many years before I saw it again. I think that if I had seen it on a more-consistent basis as I was growing up, then I may have been more attached to it and been able to do a fairer comparison to "...Legacy".

As it stands, I wasn't disappointed. It wasn't as awesome as the hype led me to believe, but it wasn't a hard THUNK by the time all was said and done.
They killed Kevin Flynn? Ouch. From the minute I first saw him, I was wondering if he'd really make it out. Turns out I was right.
The flyers for the final battle were certainly cool enough, but it somehow felt misplaced to have winged vehicles in this world. It was kinda like having wheeled vehicles in Star Wars- floating and legged vehicles were the norm because it looked cool, and they didn't depend on real-world physics so much. Ex: wings were never lifting surfaces, and we saw a wheeled tank only once in six films.
I still don't get the significance of ISOs. I know "ISO" is a real computer term, but I didn't understand what made ISOs in "Legacy" so important to Flynn.
Is it just me, or did time pass on the Grid in the first film the same way it did in the real world (1 digital second = 1 real second)? Because Kevin went in early evening and was inside for at least a day the first time, and when he came out it was morning. But here it seems to have changed dramatically (8 hours digital = 1second real). Am I wrong on this?
Daft Punk (I recognized their cameo in the club!) did a fair-enough job with the score, but I'm not sure if I want to pursue getting a OST CD or not.

I will be interested to see how they will work out a third film. Maybe have Tron survive to come back? Sam face-off against Dillinger Jr? Maybe have the Grid come into first contact with the Internet, and see what happens? Someone else learns of the 'Flynn server' and attempts to hack into it?
