That thing does not seem very stable at all... O_O
Holymotherofgod that is AWESOME!!! Listen to all those clicky joints, and see how they convert the hips and torso. Beautiful... 8D
Now listen carefully, Bandai: make THAT into a toy under USD$90.00, but standing 16" in Attacker Mode, and throw in a little die-cast metal and some missile launchers.
Oh, BTW, eitlobsaboo and Dkun, movie-Macross didn't have ankles, even though TV-Macross [sort of] did.

Stop talking like you're an expert.
The Macross SITS DOWN in DYRL, you think it didn't have ankles for that scene?
I own that movie and have seen it enough times to say "yes". Hell, I even double-checked before I responded. If it does, then it's been fooling me for the better part of 14 years.
By the way, how could a giant robot the size of a city be able to hold itself by planting all that weight on a part of itself that was NEVER intended to make such a motion? Don't talk to me about ankles- that was something I was glad they got rid of for the movie.
And by what giant ass rockets did it lift itself into the air when those massive engines on its FEET (which, presumably, have the anti-grav system to let it float in air without using fuel) were not directly under the center of gravity?

I told you this a million times, stop derailing threads with your pointless technical discussion.
I didn't mean the ankles... I meant the entire toy.

no problem with me if there are flaws to it. problem is, i dont have the means.
wow.
I will never have that toy, and I won't be losing any sleep over it. Look at him jiggle. I'd sooner have a jumbo machinder Big Zam.
A jumbo machinder Big Zam would be cool, too. It's need to have the rocket punch gimmick.
This Macross toy is a prototype, right? Is it one of a kind?
I love the clicks.
Very nice! If I won the lottery I would most certainty be able to afford this lol If it were around a grand I might have made a run at obtaining one of these but $2500-ish is just too much coin for one toy as impressive as it is.
my my, look at that guy, pushing the prototype with his fingertips to avoid contact... What kind of job is this? Toy-tester at Bandai's SOC branch??? That's probably one of the funniest jobs in the world!
Oh WOW. That sure was some good toy porn.
...I feel like I need a cocktail and a nap after watching that.
What is that godawful noise, though? Man, I pretty much stopped doing video reviews because my camera made an annoying buzzing sound much less annoying than that! lol
"You can't sell it until you get it from him, but you gotta sell it to pay him to get it to sell it".
---Jerilock, talking about me trying to raise the money I need to pay for the toys I already bought....
What?! No review? All the guy did was transform the ship.
He would've had the decency to tell us what he thought it.

I like the 47 pictures of the box from every conceivable angle. I guess he can't afford a decent camera after buying it.
Ignore the video and check out the photo gallery, it's obsessively thorough in the construction, and makes it clear this is no toy - it's a full-on kit. He also has extensive comparison shots with other SDF-1 pieces, making me want my old Matchbox one again even more.
My biggest complaint is it's still a prototype, with none of the electronics and lighting. It also looks very plain and unfinished, with little color and some pretty soft molding on the tiny details. For this kind of coin I'd expect it to be a little more sharp and "finished". Price isn't a factor with this since it's in the realm of truly disposable income, but even a man dropping a grand or two on a toy should expect to not have to then go spend hours adding detail to it.
It's cool that someone made it, and even though it's the version most care less about, it's a nice piece. I'd like to see one after a skilled modeler goes at one and makes it complete.
Most people care about the DYRL version.
Sounds like most Macronians only care about this version b/c it's Macross. The TV version reminds them of Robotech Rape & it's painful.

I agree with VF5SS. The relationship between movie-Macross and TV-Macross is similar to that of TOS-Enterprise and refit-Enterprise (from "Star Trek- The Motion Picture"). I don't know how most "Macross" fans would feel about my analogy here, but it's taking a classic design and tweaking it just-so for the big screen to make them even more amazing than before but retaining all the cool shapes and aura of the original.
I certainly care about the movie-Macross.

totally agree with you guys the DYRL Super Dimensinal Fortress totally counts as a refit Enterprise.
Duke Togo has pretty much nailed it there with that conclusion. Very underwelming in IMO. Looks plasticy and cheap. Conclusion...Bigger doesn't mean better...
i was dissapointed it didnt have ships for arms, that was my favorite part of the SDF-1!
the toy is cool, and i would gladly take one if it were free, but only an (rich!)idiot could warrant spending so much on a useless object. yeah, its immensely cool, but it doesnt make waffles or do my homework.
Surely all collectibles are useless objects?!
