It looks like its... Translucent?

Honestly, it looks kinda like a prototype sculpt...carved outta wood!
And since we're talking about a fairly low-tech Chinese factory, that's not at all far-fetched...
Does the sculpt, itself, look bad to you?

Sculpt looks a little off to me, but it might be the angle though. Here is what it looked like in the film:
Really needs to have the eye light up :P
I recently saw TBH... Good Disney techy stuff as usual at that time, but there was a lot of bad stuff too. I would support a remake.

Ok, you have lost any credibility you ever had with me.... remake The Black Hole....how dare you....

...of course, I would remake "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" with the same breath, mind you. ^_^
No, it's the same formula- good movie, bad moments.

Another flippant, mind numbing remark from EVA.... The film is fine EXACTLY the way it is....
I have the MPC kit in my back log of model kits for CDX, Hopefully one day I'll get around to it!!!

There already is a remake in the works. Not to mention that the film Event Horizon was kinda a remake anyway...Or that The Black Hole was basicly 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea set in space. :P

True on both points. I can't disagree with that! ^^

It doesn't look very good...?
Max is a tough design to really make a toy of anyway, because he has almost no play value. I guess the vinyl formula works in the same way it would for Vince, but Vince wasn't exactly impressive.

looks like it came out of a black hole....just not the one in space
Great news that interest is still high for this story! Needs SOC type toys. Or 12" scale Medicom/ HotToys type figs.
I'll ignore all proto sculpts until something more solid is announced. Great character to get a fig of.
Wonder what they'll do for a stand/prop? MAYBE IT"LL REALLY HOVER!!!! OOOOO!!
Seriously, after many years, I also re-watched this last summer, and man, those effects were pretty good still! The deranged ending!
I was hoping for an Old B.O.B., since it would be more in line with what V.I.N.CENT was and the two go great together. Max is a tough design for a toy, there really hasn't been a good representation of him outside of the model kit. The Mego figure was ok, but when the guy has eight arms of death and you can't use them, he just sits there flapping his fins.
As for this piece, unless it's scale to the V.I.N.CENT, I'll probably pass. And for it to be scale, it would have to be the size of a Jumbo - doubtful given the looks of the sculpt. At least you won't have to worry about bad printing, it's all red with a heavy wash. Lighting the eye is a must, and a simple task.
I'm a sucker for Black Hole stuff, so the chance I'll get this is there, but I'm not sold at first sight like I was with V.I.N.CENT.
I did manage to get SDCC tickets this year, so I can at least see it in person this time to make my decision.
I will take Black Hole merch 31 years after the movie came out, I will buy it, and I won't complain.
