Much as I question

Much as I question melee-oriented giant robots, Exia is certainly a lovely creature.

It's nice looking, don't get

It's nice looking, don't get me wrong, but at 15,000 yen with a MG that goes for about 5,000 yen and looks very similar, even with the die cast I'm not feeling it's worth it. Maybe if I liked the Exia Repair III design, but I feel like giving Exia a giant cannon is like giving Batman a gun.

I'm with you on that one. Who

I'm with you on that one. Who looked at Exia and said "You know what the Seven Sword System really needs? A combat shotgun!"?

The only thing looking at this makes me want to do is hunt down a HG model of Exia R3. And that's not even possible since the HG's only got to R2!

If I got this, I would

If I got this, I would probably never convert it to R3.

how much metal is there?

what's the distribution of metal parts like on the Metal Build figures? an all metal skeleton with plastic armor over it would be really nice...

Is it me

Is it me or the Metal Build 00 Gundam Seven Sword looked a lot better than the Exia in this line? Also the price seems a bit high for what you get in this package.

I'm also with you in the matter of the gun. The cloak would have been a better accessory to include in this set.

Oh my, I must discuss canon

Oh my, I must discuss canon (not "cannon") now...

Repair I - Setsuna's attempt to restore Exia to functional status after climactic battle at end of Season One, but can only cover the missing left arm and jury-rig a Tieren sensor for one of the eyes. After Exia (and Setsuna) are recovered by Celestial Being, Exia's GN Drive is salvaged and used on the OO Gundam, rendering the former inoperable.
Repair II - Celestial Being fully repairs and upgrades Exia 'just in case', removing the Seven Swords System, but it cannot be used until the original GN Drive from OO Gundam is restored within it.
Repair III - Celestial Being finds itself short of functional Gundams after the end of Season Two, so it once more upgrades Exia to get something into the field to keep the fragile peace intact until the movie-ver. Gundams can be completed. However, RIII does not have Exia's original GN Drive to use anymore, so they modify the Gundam to use a GN Condenser tank which provides a limited supply of GN Particles (the same thing they did to the O Gundam for Season Two, BTW).

Thank you

Thank you for all the information about the development of Gundam Exia. I had no idea it went through all those fixes and upgrades (I was never able to watch this show).

So the "cannon" that comes with this set is canon?

Exia R3 comes from the visual

Exia R3 comes from the visual novel, "Mobile Suit Gundam 00V: Battlefield Record", which falls under the MSV flag of Gunpla. So even though it was never animated, R3 was made into a model kit (well... a conversion kit, really, for any standard Exia model) and has appeared in a number of games.

While any "Mobile Suit Variation" can be taken as canon, they are basically attempts to market additional merchandise and a side story based around the main pictured series/movie. Sometimes if an MSV happens early enough, little nods to said MSV will appear in the main canon series/movie it is based on, but you have to go looking for them. (MSV is basically like the Expanded Universe of Star Wars, if you know what that is.)

So, technically speaking, R3 exists and is canon even though we never saw it animated on-screen in the series or movie.
