VF-2SS Valkyrie II Silvie Gena Use from Macross II

Evolution Toy is taking us to the moon, where we're sure to learn a lot! They are producing the first transformable toy of the VF-2SS from Macross II: Lovers Again. It can convert between Battroid, Gerwalk, and Fighter. The VF-2SS will be 1/60 scale. Uses diecast parts to strengthen joints. First up is Silvie Gena's red trimmed Valkyrie. Includes gun pod and pilot figure. Does not include Super Armed Pack. Coming December 2015 for 24,800 yen.

Macross seems to be the

Macross seems to be the beloved but niche mecha franchise in Japan. Thus, $200 Valks.

I have a semi nostalgic attachment to the design, I used to own the English language RPG book they made for Macross II.

I dunno.

I am glad that someone took a swing at this design, but...this just doesn't look like it's going to be that good. The huge breastplate with the super-skinny limbs is weird. And even with that concession to proportions, Fighter Mode still ends up with exposed transformation connectors all over the place! (And they can't even get Fighter Mode to hold together properly for these promo shots--you can see the leg/engine droop in some of them...)

Does Kawamori have some weird beef with the VF-2 design, and won't let anyone make toys of it? Or is it actually utterly forgotten in Japan, and the only reason anyone in America cares is the Palladium RPG book?

It is the latter, as Kawamori

It is the latter, as Kawamori does not have that kind of control over Macross. It really is a case of no one else was seriously approaching Big West (who I've heard are somewhat hard to work with) to make a VF-2SS toy until Evolution Toy came along. Macross II lack of popularity puts it int he same category as many of Evolution Toy's products.

Ah, thanks

Oh well; I guess this might be all we get, then?

You know, Patlabor has very similar design cues to the VF-2 Battroid. Maybe I could just get one of those and squint and pretend...

The Macross Speaker Podcast

The Macross Speaker Podcast guys talked to Evolution Toys a bit, and they said if this VF-2SS does well, they plan on following up with Nexx's aircraft with the SAP accessories. After that, maybe the Metal Siren.

the battroid mode looks so

the battroid mode looks so great, but the gerwalk and fighter especially really look like a mess
