Where to start with Macross?

Posted: 25 April, 2012 - 09:22

Hey everyone. I'm fairly new to collectibles; I just started collecting toys at the beginning of this year. I started off with a couple figures from one of my favorite animes Gurren Lagann. I was wondering where would a good figure to start with Macross toys?

Welcome to the Jungle!

As Viper8-san says,
Yamato "1/60th scale" series must be one of best choices, they are well-received.
Bandai's "VF HI-METAL" series have released at lower prices, these could be the good first step for new participants.
(Don't buy VF 100s series~! Those were horrible!)

Just check when it released. Not always, but usually new ones are better.
Think about Yamato's "1/60 SV-51γ" released in 2007. The fighter mode is great, but Battroid mode is just...awkward.

You can find different aims between manufacturers.
That's my personal impression:

Bandai - sticks to commercializing robo toys, which are able to transform to fighter mode.

Yamato - focuses on tranformable fighter toys, which can be battroid mode.

Hope this helps! (^o^)v

Don't forget to get "Shoji Kawamori: Macross Design Works" if you can!

I don't know which particular macross series you like but you might want tO get macross toys in the 1/60 line so that they are all in scale. Yamato and bandai makes transformable macross vehicles in that line.
