I wish Yamato would include some stands, even simple ones would be nice. Paying about 30 bucks for it, so a stand wouldn't be too much to ask.

Personally, I think it's best not to judge the toy lines, but rather each toy seperately. I find that too much brand loyalry can blind you to excellent toys another company puts out.

Besides, there are so few GNU-DOU figures out as opposed to Revoltech you wouldn't be able to make a good comparison.

I was under the impression that BCreation was a US branch-only, and that they're the ones who come up with stuff that either that appears only in PR or wasn't in Super Sentai.

That really isn't all that uncommon with big/carrier-type Super Sentai mecha. Most of them weren't designed to walk around on-screen in the earlier series; being designed to remain in place, fly/hover, or use wheels/tractor treads to get about. The problem in recent years, however, is that the big mecha now have the need to walk about with their legs rather than roll or fly-

    • Bakuryuu Gattai MaxOhJa ("AbaRanger", 2003)
    • Choukyodai Kidou DekaBase Robo ("DekaRanger", 2004)
    • Densetsu Gasshin MagiLegend ("MagiRanger", 2005)
    • Chouzetsu Gougou Gattai DaiVoyager ("Boukenger", 2006)
    • Jyuken Kyojin SaiDaiOh ("GekiRanger", 2007)

That is what's wrong with these toys nowadays- they're being designed with legs that aren't utilized or apparent in toy form. Notice, also, that it's just bang-bang-bang-bang one right after the other for the last five years. The Revolver Mammoth from "Hurricanger" did have wheels in the series, but it also had moving armored sections that looked like legs; which carried over to the toy. All before this, if a carrier had a humanoid-shaped form, there was an indent to imply a split between legs, but they were non-functional and couldn't move.

I do have to wonder why it is that they've been doing this lately...

    ...

Dude, MagiKing pwnes more than a few of first lead mecha from some of the other series!

Some of the Revoltech joints may occasionally be a little loose, but it isn't like they're falling apart. Besides,it's not like I still take all my guys out in the yard and act out cool battles with them.

I hardly ever do that any more. :)

    Qustion.....who is better? (GNU-DOU or Revoltech)????????? T_T

  • It definitely looks like a Heisei Gojira as opposed to a Millenium one, with the rounded canine head, taut chest, and fairly reserved back spines. The legs do look a bit lithe though, and the head isn't quite as rounded as it should be for the '81/'84 look. As you say, it's definitely not Showa Goji, and the head and body are all wrong for the Final Wars version.

Irregardless, at three grand, it's a safe pass for me. :p

    EDIT:
Whoops! I meant 84/91 heisei look, not 81/84. Either way, looking at this suit breakdown:

    http://www.historyvortex.org/GodzillaEvolution2.html

... It most closely (in my eyes) resembles the suit which was used in G.vs Biollante and G vs. King Ghidora. The legs on that suit even seem to be fairly skinny like the statue.

I suppose I could pop in my R3 GvB dvd tonight and check but meh.

  • The lower legs and feet look a bit small. Other than that, I'm not too sure which Godzilla this is. It's obviously not a showa Godzilla. Looks kinda heisei Godzilla...on a diet. It's not Mire-Goji or GMK Godzilla. I thought it might be Finaro-Goji because of the face, but the proportions are way off. Before heisei, we have 1984 and Bio-Goji...I'm thinking it's not either of those. Anyone have any thoughts?

Wow. My first thought one seeing that was "Is that a Valk or an Aura Battler?"

  • Ah, Bullmark giant-sized Godzilla colors on that Slash (Popy-reissue) "attacking" Godzilla. Very nice!

Digging the old-schoolness of Rodan, too...just think the paint is a bit boring...

Y'know, I did notice that but I wasn't sure if it was significant since all the Power Ranger toys I'd actually bought in a store previous to this one were Jumbos, and hence also from Bandai Creation.

Would you pay $90 for three different toys in the various modes or $90 for one that transformed? For that amount I'd expect a transforming toy in that scale with comparable build quality. The old 1/72 toys of these were less than that and diecast.

As for RT looseness, I seem to remember you mentioning older releases like the Shin Getter stuff when you talk RT issues. While it's no excuse that those weren't as good as other releases, they were among the more problematic of them. They've come quite a ways since then and we all know a little epoxy can silence most woes. coff Raiking coff.

The line has promise, the old stuff they've shown is what most are interested in from what I've seen here and elsewhere.

Valks are a dime-a-dozen, but Susuraigar, Baxinger, Braiger, GoShogun, Dancouga, and Baldios in a nice, affordable action figure format are not.

This seems more to my liking than Revoltechs. The price is right enough, I suppose, but the thing about most Revoltechs I have, there's always at least one or two revoltech joints that are pretty loose (either the joint, itself, or one of the pegs that connects to the figure). As such, I don't give Revoltech figures much credit in the "robust" category. These Yamato figs seem a little bit nicer.

What would make me actually pick one up would be if they released matching non-transformable figures of the fighter and GERWALK modes. Is that too much to ask? I mean, they're toys of transforming characters...if you're gonna make non-transforming figures of them, at least make one for every mode they show up in in the show!

Does anyone else find it odd that this was put out by Bandai Creation, and not just plain old Bandai? They are 2 distinct branches of a parent company,

Even though the GNU's have more accurate sculpts I just can like its appearance. The GNU looks sorta...dead.

Now the revoltech? The exaggerated proportions have character and personality. IMO the revoltechs would have MUCH more shelf presence, especially if you have the YF-19 and YF-20 involved in pin-point barrier fisticuffs while on there standard stand.

The only GNU I see myself getting so far is the VF-11 and that's only because I love VF-11's so much.

I wonder if we will be able to see big scaled sentai mechas that don't need their legs to be fused...

Even with the $11 price tag, I still prefer buying MagiKing over this.

The GNU's definitely have the more accurate sculpt. Plus no big holes in the back of the calves, or ball-shaped joints.
