Going to Anime Central 2013? Need something to do on Saturday morning? You could spend your Saturday morning waiting in line to get into the dealer room?  OR you could join me as I discuss the mythos of the Saint Seiya universe and get in on the giveaways at the end of the panel. Then you can leave knowing a bit more about one of Japan’s most iconic franchises and walk right into the dealer room without having to wait.

My panel for Anime Central 2013, will be on May 18th at 9am in the Gatwick room at the Hayatt Regency O’hare.

 Topics to be discussed include:

  • Background on the creation of the series
  • The manga series
  • The anime series
  • Spinoffs
  • The official Saint Seiya timeline
  • The future of the franchise

I hope to see you there!

For all our CollectionDX readers going to Anime Boston 2013, I will be hosting a panel on my favorite subject: Macross! This panel is called Flight of the Valkyries: A Guide to the Mecha of Macross and will be held in Panel 206 on Friday May 24th at 4:00 PM. In this panel I will be going over the real life history of the various Valkyries using information graciously provided by Renato from the Macross Speaker Podcast as well as relating these fictional aircraft back to the real world airplanes they are based on. The panel is set to last for an hour and I hope it will be very informative for those who attend!

In the run-up to the May 16th release of "Star Trek Into Darkness" (and without any kind of copyright infringement), European car manufacturer Audi has just released this little gem:

And in a similar vein (but by a different company), General Electric brought forward this fan-pleasing piece in April 2013:

This is about brand engagement, blatant misogyny, and ripping off Casablanca. Charlie Sheen!

This movie was supposed to be in theatres in 2003 but never came out. It was leaked on the Internet and then eventually released on DVD in Europe. An official US release a decade later finally came out... streaming on Youtube.

Enjoy the second part of the new Homeless Dinosaur adventure Permanently More Beautiful, with art by badass artist and Robot God Akamatsu co-creator Frankie B. Washington and lettering by super star Star St. Germain. I wrote it. It's good. You should read it and share it with all your friends and lovers.

I am joined once again by Carl aka SDshamshel of Ogiue Maniax to discuss the recent anime AKB0048, which was directed by Shoji Kawamori with Mari Okada as the head writer.

Check out his post on how actual AKB48 songs are used in AKB0048.

If I had to sum up AKB0048 in one image it would be this:

My ThreeA Real Steel Atom review sample unboxing video is up.  Apologies for the video quality, but I shot this when I got home from work last night and saw a huge box from Josh lying on my bed,  I'm pretty sure Atom is the first 3A toy that they have sent out review samples for, so I am super stoked to have been a recipient.  The figure is awesome, and I'll have my full review with text, photos, and better video up on Monday.  In the meantime, you can preorder Atom on Bambalandstore.com.

Hey everyone! I posted a new page of Homeless Dinosaur with art by the talented Trishelle Jeffery. As you've come to expect, it was written by me.

It's been a while since I did a book report, so I figured it was time! Forgive me if this is too obscure for you, but I have kind of a ridiculous obsession with a comic called Flying Warriors. Never heard of it? Well, I don't blame you. Strap in, because this is a complicated story.

In 1985, a small Japanese company named Nihon Game created a video arcade game called North Faction Shaolin: Fist of the Flying Dragon, an early fighting game about kung fu warriors. It was later released in the west under the name Shanghai Kid.
