First off, a whole hearted shout out to the Stormbearers, and a sincere hope you guys haven't resorted to cannibalism yet or using the alcohol as a fire excellerent. I'm just kidding, storm seasons haven't been fair to everyone this past year between the tropical storms that wrecked us and the snow storms up there, the sooner the 2008 weather season (year) is over, the better. We're in a last ditch heat wave right now; 78 degrees after three weeks of 52, 52, and 48.

Coming up on the holidays, I want to say thank you to Josh and Dan for the unexpected, but much appreciated, holiday card. I say that because I'll be celebrating Hanukkah before X-Mas, and I'm too politically correct until after my third cup of coffee in the morning. None the less, the card was a great addition to the collection of Holiday countertop stuffers. Its currently sitting next to the Magic Eightball and Hanukkiah (the menorah) on the mantle.

So I'm sitting here at a friends house, leeching off of their internet connection. We're three days into our power outage at CDX HQ. We had an ice storm Thursday night that knocked out power to a good portion of New England. Over 300,000 homes in Massachusetts were without power. It's Sunday now, and they are now telling us that we may not have power back until Tuesday.

We've been keeping warm, we still have power, but we have no heat. We have a fireplace that has been keeping us warm, and we should have enough wood to last us the duration.

It's amazing how much we rely on technology. I went into laptop withdrawl while at the house, so we ended up folding a lot of laundry. Our cel phones worked, but thats about it. We went scrounging at local stores for batteries and candles...

We were really unprepared. Looking forward we may invest in a generator to keep the heat and lights on. Where we are in town is not exactly on the list of priority places to restore power.

Please bear with us if the site goes down, or news and content isnt updated much this week..

Once again, Thai-Toku.com proves to be an invaluable asset to me...

Sad news today as Forrest J. Ackerman has passed away at age 92 at his home in LA. "Uncle Forry" as he was known may have been the biggest collector of us all. Besides being the publisher of the legendary "Famous Monsters Of Filmland" and the man who discovered Ray Bradbury, he had one of the greatest horror and sci-fi collections on the planet and would routinely open up his house to visitors who wanted to see his it. I know it was always a great treat for monster collectors to get to visit the "Ackermansion" and I regret that I never did.

I love Plaid Stallions. It's such a fantastic blog, each day is a trip back into my childhood. Today they had a great sale ad from JC Penney.. from 1978. This takes me back to a happier time...

Yes, I had a nice time at the wedding, and yes I did survive the two plane trips needed to get there and back again. (The return trip was probably the best flight I've ever had!) It was nice to see the extended family back there after nine years too.

'Nuff of that now.

So I just got back from seeing Twilight. In case you live in a cage, Twilight is the new book sensation. It's what Harry Potter fans are now reading now that their hormones have kicked in. I've heard the books are pretty good (comparatively speaking) and to me anything that gets kids reading is a great idea.

But I have to tell you, the movie sucks balls.

Spoilers within.....

You know, sometimes we lose sight of what the true purpose of toys are, and how some companies are really in touch with that.

I just read this article on CNN:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/conditions/11/20/autism.fire.hotwheels/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

"(CNN) -- After the fire, all that was left of Jonathan Reyes' massive Hot Wheels collection was a piece of metal that once was part of a toy car.
Jonathan Reyes shows off his new Hot Wheels cars sent by Mattel after they heard his own toys were lost in a fire.

But on Wednesday, the arrival of two cardboard boxes at his grandparents' house sent 7-year-old Jonathan flying to the door, said his mother, Jan Reyes.

Mattel, the company that makes Hot Wheels, sent racetracks, play sets, stickers, folders, T-shirts, hats and hundreds of toy cars.

"He was speechless," Reyes said. "He didn't say anything. He just smiled. He opened it up. It was like Christmas. All of us were bawling, crying. He was so happy."

Well, I'm gonna be attending a cousin's wedding in Illinois this weekend.

Why am I telling you this? Because blogs are supposed to detail my daily life, of course!

...or are they?

Greetings true believers and visitors, to the first blog by the AWOL Gundam Guy. At this time I would like to formally apologize for my disappearance from CDX after my last reviews and commentary from the podcasts promising reviews of other Gundams. Truth be told I did beging writing reviews, but some computer errors on my part lost what I was writing and on the model front I have been lacking in the proverbial things to write about in general. When I talk about my hobby to some of my local readers, I tell them that the closest hobby shop is a UPS truck and four shipping days away. Now some of you may have been wondering, Where have I been? To that I suppose a little exposition is on order.

Amidst the not so chaotic days, I have been preoccupied with the daily operations and management of my family's farm in Hahira, GA. For those looking on Google Maps, Hahira is that little spec in the northern edge of the boot shaped Lowndes County. Sports fans will know that Lowndes County was awarded "TITLE TOWN" for the past year, and unfortunately Valdosta's let its fame go to its head. Now if only that fame would let us get a real anime/hobby store.
