I've always been a fan of the old dub, and I have the DVD tin from a few years ago. I'm wondering if I need this.

I remember back in the day, I bought a shitty VHS tape copy of Akira at a comic convention in Boston. I didn't even have a VCR at the time, so I called a friend (who was not into anime) if I could come over to watch it. Not to watch it WITH him, just to watch it. The tape was a shitty copy from laserdisc - no subtitles. I fell in love with the visuals.

Then the Streamline dub, that became THE voice of Tetsuo and Kaneda. And I also became a fan of geinoh yamashirogumi from the Akira soundtrack. This, more than anything else, was my first "all-in" moment of anime. When I discovered it in its purest form.

Thanks for sharing! You have a much more interesting and longer connection with this film than I do.

I just bought my DVD copy at Blockbuster. It was the same special edition DVD set that came in the tin. Though I don't think I got the tin, because I think that was only for the first pressing. My sister then proceeding to borrow it without permission and lose the discs.

So for me this was a good chance to watch the film again and also acquire another copy. I wish I still had my original copy so I could compare the video and audio quality on both and give better insight into whether or not the 25th anniversary edition is a big upgrade from the last release.

One of the BEST of ALL TIME!!

At Long Last!!
6 Years of dubbed Copies kept running through my hands, through my DVD Player and my Eyes.
Before I finally bought my OWN copy more than a few years back and finally sat down to watch it.
IT truly was spectacular when I finally had the time to EXPERIENCE IT!!
Unfortunately that copy is also gone NOW!!
Your moving watching life must include this movie if you are to consider yourself a movie watcher or Science Fiction FAN of any type.
