Epic Mickey

If you're about my age,Mickey Mouse has been for little kids your whole life. Even your Mom and Dad probably think of singing along to the Mickey Mouse club during wholesome afterschool programming. What a lot of people don't know though,is that the Mickey Mouse your grandfather liked to watch was less Big Bird and more Homer Simpson. Just go on Youtube and watch "Gallopin Gaucho","Mickey's Mechanical Man" or" Steamboat Willie" (the uncut version) to see what I mean. Well, that mickey is back-in video game form,in Epic Mickey on the Wii.
It's a platform game that combines elements of Mario galaxy (spin move) Mario Sunshine(water,in this game paint thinner) and Lego Star wars( you paint in predetermined spots, like the "building" in lego games).
The concept, art design, characters, etc. are FANTASTIC. This is one of the best ideas for a game ever. You play Mickey, who inadvertantly destroys most of a realm where washed up cartoons live, like Pete,Horace Horsecollar, and Clarabelle. Their ruler is Oswald The Lucky Rabbit (one of Walt disney's first characters, though I believe Pete predates him),who has become a pitiful little dude obsessed with Mickey's popularity. It's like a darker version of that Tiny Toons episode where they meet Foxy,Roxy, and Goopey Geer. If you're like me and spend hours watching black and white cartoons on youtube, you'll LOVE this game.

Here's the downside- the actual gameplay is nothing special, and you're constantly moving the camera yourself, like on N64. It's just unacceptable in 2010. That being said,I feel the unique concept makes up for the game's faults, allthough sticklers for quality will definately want to wait for the inevitable drop to $19.99 in 6 months or so. But if you enjoy the old-old-OLD school animation where everyone looks like Bosko with different ears, you should not miss this.

Your kids will definately

Your kids will definately like it,since the flaws it has (bad camera angles, obtuse level design) are the kind of things kids overlook about games. Adults like us try to rush through games in our limited windows of free time, but if your son takes an hour to solve a puzzle,to him that's an hour well spent. :)
