Turbo Teen

Turbo Teen

So a friend of mine was kind enough to pick me up my very own Turbo Teen.

From what I can tell, it's a scaled-up Gobot with the head of an adolescent boy.

I'm thinking of going all out with the build, considering it's a pretty simple model. I haven't yet commited to airbrushing a project, but this could be the perfect opportunity.

Update

Thanks to Diakron for letting me know that this comes from a proper, terrible cartoon from the eighties!

Turbo Teen

This cannot be real-- A model toy of an incredibly rare 1980s cartoon show on ABC Saturday Morning is just shocking with disbelief.

The way this model kit version is far-off from the way the protagonist is portrayed in the TV series. The leading character Brett Matthews accidentally drove his red Trans-Am car to a top-secret government experiment in molecular reconstruction. Caught in the process, the molecular ray fused Matthews & his car into a techno-organic entity.

Matthews looks as normal as any average teen. But when gets extremely hot he morphs into his car as Turbo Teen, a superhero car working for the government fighting bad guys w/ his 2 sidekicks. Matthews changes back into human form when he comes contact with intense cold as I remember.

Turbo Teen doesn't transform into a giant robot like this rare kit does, he does converts into a flying car or a high-speed car boat w/ hydro-foils, & all sorts of cool stuff that TT has to offer in his trunk full of tricks & gadgets like the we see in other 80s treats like M.A.S.K. & Knight Rider.

I can't believe that you've come across a thing like this Ethusiast. An excellent find, just excellent. I'm hearing the theme song from Turbo Teen in my head as I'm gazing at your pictures.

unbelievable! It didn't even

unbelievable! It didn't even occur to me to google Turbo Teen. I assumed the kit was just some goofy one-off, but there it is. Thanks Diakron.

Wikipedia tells me that Frank Welker voiced Flip, Rusty, and Dark Rider.

Maybe I shouldn't build such a rare, and no doubt valuable, piece! I will start the bidding at 400 dollars. Serious inquiries only.

; )

You are so EXTREMELY welcome sir. ; )

If you got any questions about any 1980s obscurities, let me know.

I'm a walking archive of 80s coolness baby...well, one of them of course! :3

PS: Even though the show had it's moldy cheesecakes, Frank Welker took the cake & made it delicious as Dark Rider & that's awesome.

Nice Find

Wow! Nice old Monogram kit. I vaguely remember these kits but I think I blocked it out for obvious reasons! Great find and you have to build it! If you don't want to paint it you can always spray Hi Gloss on it and polish it out. It should look nice.

I say build it! Model kits are made to be built not collected!!
