Destroy All Podcasts ST Episode 24 - FernGully: The Last Rainforest

Hosts: Betty, Dylan, Jeremy, Mike

This is about how humans are evil, the science of fairies, and Tim Curry as Hedorah, the smog monster. Did you know Crysta was played by Samantha Mathis a.k.a. Princess Daisy in the Super Mario Bros. movie?

Click [HERE] to pour down like egg chow mein.

Remember to submit your top five fairies to win anime DVDs, robot toys, and more!

Video after the cut.

Here's the misleading VHS cover. It makes it look like Robin Williams the Bat's Magical Adventures or something.

And here's the sludge monster's big number!

Confession

I gotta confession to make.

I didn't listen to the 100th episode of Megazone 23.

So I'm going to listen to it now to fulfill my purpose.

If you didn't get what I said about 'DebTiny', I hope this sums it up.

I haven't seen this in so

I haven't seen this in so long.

When it came out, at the time I was in the in-patient psychiatric ward at Children's Hospital in Seattle for 6 weeks (a misdiagnosis that wasn't corrected/updated until 2003, I assure you!), and they took a few of us to see this as opposed to "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie", which absolutely pissed me off to no end. (I also got to see "Home Alone" while I was there, which was far-more satisfying... at the time) Then, months later, my parents got me this for Easter instead of "MMPR:TM".

Only thing I ever really liked about this film was the coolness of the leveler, cuz it was early CGI and looked like a giant robot (was it?).

God help me- I still know [just about] all the lyrics to "Toxic Love"...

Toxic Love

Are you talking about seeing it in the theatre? I was pretty sure Home Alone was a couple of years before FernGully and FernGully was a couple of years before the Power Rangers movie?

Haha, so we were right! Toxic Love sticks in your head for years and years! I couldn't remember any of the other songs but I sure remembered THAT one.

Oh, yeah- I went to the same

Oh, yeah- I went to the same psych ward twice. The first time when I was about 9, and the second time I was about 12. I was in the second time when MMPR:TM came out. (High-functioning Autism was not a diagnosis at the time, so they were treating me incorrectly. Tragically, none of us knew it until after I had graduated from high school!)

Or, wait- maybe I went to see "Home Alone" for a friend's birthday party... :? That must have been it.

The reason "Toxic Love" sticks around longer is because it was the only original song written for the movie, the other(s) were pop songs (a re-recording? of "Land of a Thousand Dances" is the only one I can think of off the top of my head).

Buddy, Tim Curry's born a no-fair; he doesn't count at all for he's above it. He only counts the fairies he eats them in his belly. That's why he's an unstoppable force of darkness.

While [finally] listening to

While [finally] listening to this podcast, I just remembered something:

Tim Curry was the voice of Maestro Forte (a bad-ass-lookin' pipe organ with a really big chin who clearly suffers from separation anxiety) in the direct-to-video "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas" (1997).
