The CG characters didn't bother me. Then again, my parents took me to see TRON when I was little, so I guess any CG better than the light-cycles is good enough for me. I also spent about 20$ in quarters on the Star Wars vector graphics X-wing game in early 80s too.
So... if a show has CG mecha... should the characters also be CG or is it OK for the characters to be 2D animated? Since many new Anime shows have CG mecha, I don't think we're going to be seeing much 2D animated mecha in the future.
I loved Igloo. I'd consider it one of the very best presentations of UC Gundam's overall themes and ideas about space combat. The CG characters didn't bother me either, and some scenes are quite striking/realistic.
As far as CG mecha anime goes, YES! I love the fluidity, angles, dynamic action and choreography, and the ability to present mecha details in all their glory.
For example, I love the way that the Tachikoma's in SAC skate backwards and forwards on all four legs, and the creatively animated fights in IGPX. It's much more entertaining than the short, limited fights of most 2D series, although I don't want to say that "2D" can't be fluid because even the recent Gundam 00 has great battle moves.
One more thing, I don't think its fair to say that Igloo isn't worth it because its a "$45 free museum video." Bandai Visual's short-format pricing has been absolutely rediculous lately, with MSRP's from $40-60 for two-to-three episode dvd's like Diebuster and Super Robot Wars.
Apparently this podcast did not have enough influence to stop another 1-year war story.
