I just listened to the Dallos show....

I started listening to this podcast when you did the Macross DYRL commentary, so I haven't heard all the old episodes. I thought you guys were all audiophiles and masters of recording tracks with your talk about 'getting the levels right' and 'facing the microphone'. I didn't realize that you pretty much learned about recording from making this podcast alone. Wow. Good job.

After listening to the Dallos episode, I thought you were gonna rip Tranzor Z to shreds. What's so different between those two shows? ...besides about 10 years?

Also, you ever notice how fewer people post when the words 'Robotech' or 'Macross' don't appear? Oh well...

Psychosexualhyperviolence!

While America does its best to dillute Go Nagai's craziness, the show is still way over the top. The big difference between Mazinger Z and Dallos is the direction and pacing.

Dallos is slow-paced and boring, Mazinger Z is hyperactive and spastic. Something is always exploding or someone is yelling or a neck is erupting with missiles. In Mazinger, fists are missiles, necks are missiles, eyes are missiles, even breasts are missiles. EVERYTHING IS A MISSILE. 90% of Dallos is guys standing around talking about how the moon sucks. Okay, great, the moon sucks. I get it.

But I am going to have to step off my hate for Oshii some because I love Patlabor.

And yeah, isn't it interesting that people only comment on Robotech or Macross posts? Haha. Well, I really appreciate your comment on this podcast.

I'm shocked anyone said anything.

heh

Here's an interesting bit of trivia for ya; of all giant robots created by Go Nagai, the Boss Borot aka. Bobo bot, has more screen time/ appearances than of any others.

"I had a choice, buy a new car or buy a Jumbo Machinder Green Ghost C3...it really wasn't a hard choice to make."

Yeah, that was totally me.

Dude, when you guys mentioned the "Is Andrew seriously Gay?" thing I started cracking up. Never been quoted on a podcast before. My brother got confused as hell and asked me why they were calling me gay, had to explain to him the guy on the podcast was another Andrew.

vagina you say...

Speaking of vaginas, you should do a show about Gunbuster in the near future. It probably has more vagina content than a junior-high health class video. I think the Gunbuster is still the tallest one-or-two-pilot robot of all time in Anime (it's as tall as the Eiffel Tower), but I could be wrong.

Besides, talking about vaginas may stop any baseless accusations of homosexuality that seem to just pop up in this podcast for no visible reason.

Yeah, Gunbuster was beat

It's been beat by Diebuster from Gunbuster two and several mechs from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Um... wasn't the SDF-1

Um... wasn't the SDF-1 Macross a whole kilometer long/tall...? (The "Robotech" ver. stated it as 3/4mi., which is roughly the same.)

(I don't think the Macross Cannons from "Macross II" count, though, since they were smaller.)

Macross Cannon

The Macross Cannons are only smaller if you read the Palladium RPGs which are full of completely wrong, bogus data.

Diebuster still bigger

Yeah, the Diebuster left a giant ass mark (literally) on the moon that would be visible from earth, but its on the dark side of the moon.

Aww... now I have to look it up...

I was talking about 1 or 2 pilot robots.

I'm going to look up the heights of the SDF-1 Macross and Gunbuster. Wait a sec (which with the magic of the internet is actually no time at all!)

According to the booklet with the 2007 DVD release of Gunbuster from Bandai Visual, the Gunbuster is 200 meters tall and weighs 9,800 tons.
According to the back of the box of the 2001 DVD release of Macross from Animeigo, the Macross is 1,210 meters long (or tall in robot mode) and weighs 18,000,000 tons.
I don't have any info on Gunbuster 2 handy, because after shelling out 65$ for Gunbuster 1 I kinda didn't feel like shelling out more for another series at the time - even though it was probably pretty good.

So yes, the SDF-1 Macross is about 5 times as tall as the Gunbuster. It is also about 1837 times heavier.

Eiffel Tower, indeed!

Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha...! :P

Actually- I think that both Primus and Unicron from Transformers lore may be thee biggest robots, since they're both the size of planets, and are both created by a greater force in the Universe.

(BTW, I have walked under the Eiffel Tower.... twice in one night!)

Moon

Unicron is the size of a moooooon. :(

Also, Battle 7 from Macross 7 is 1510 meters long in carrier mode, 1177 meters long in attack formation (robot) mode and weighs 7,770,000 tons.

Bigger robots

Choujinga Gurren Lagann is also moon sized, but Diebuster is still bigger.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbPwWNCK5Gk

Right there is some nice proof of its size.

Then Episode 27 of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann has the two largest robots of all time. I don't think anyone would ever make something bigger than them.

While I find it rather,

While I find it rather, um... belittling of Unicron to be only the size of a moon (which ranges from only a few hundred yards to thousands of miles in diameter under current definitions), images I've found online from the Marvel comics from the 80s show him and his brother Primus locked in battle, and being the same size. This, I am told, is still debated in more-dedicated TF sites & boards since Unicron was smaller for his appearance in both "The Transformers: The Movie" (1986) and "Transformers: Armada" (2005) comparable to both Earth and Cybertron. However, Primus- as seen for the first time officially in "Transformers: Cybertron" (2006)- is at least the size of Earth in his compacted disguise form as Cybertron itself. Therefor- not to get entangled in that debate- I'll just stick with saying that Primus is the biggest robot in anime.

I haven't seen "Macross 7" yet... (*embarrassed*)

No Continuity

Yeah, there's no continuity between the different versions of Transformers. The comic does not connect to the TV show/movie, or Cybertron. So not really a good rule of thumb. But Transformers has always had really bad scaling.

Size Doesn't Matter

I meant more like the same character being four different sizes in the same episode.
