If you're going to review

If you're going to review more girl cartoons of the 80's, I highly suggest Rainbow Bright the movie. It has mecha. In fact, some scenes if you paused it and didn't tell what it was from, they think it was anime.

I know someone who was a big

I know someone who was a big fan of Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer and I wasn't sure why at all, simply because I never watched that movie before. It wouldn't surprise me if the budget was good enough for the animators in Japan to get the most out of that.

Ho-hum!

Good thing I don't remember this slop at all!

Not to say I haven't had my share of watching 80's girl cartoons before (Jem I would at least say was the closest we had to Shojo manga around here, at least where they went with those stories). Most of these simply were to sell dolls to girls who'll end up cutting off their hair naively then throw them into the Salvation Armies of the world as they move onto adulthood with it's own trappings. I love Jeremy's view of what a show like this was about. Sums up just how insipid it all was. The less said about the live-action condescending bulls--t segments, the better (Maple Town had it's share too)!

The part about dogs having thumbs make me giggle a bit, though watching the episode on YouTube, I see the dog prince merely had the rope in it's mouth rather than in his paws but since we don't get to see him transform back into a dog at that moment, who can say for sure over that. Of course that wouldn't stop some animators or cartoonists from going all anthro on these animals and give them workable human-like paws when convenient. Having seen enough of that in my life, turning a dew claw into an opposable thumb on a dog seems like small potatoes to me! Often the first step is usually in the facial dept. when it comes to using human expressions to show emotions like sadness or glee, and then the talking comes next, going all human-like by standing on hind legs and moving your front legs like arms is usually the last step. Of course as a kid, how would I know better unless I bothered to study these guys in an out. Often you always seem rodents getting thumbs when they morally don't really have one or use them in the same manner we do. One fact that stunned me to find out is koalas having two opposable fingers on each paw (since most cartoons always go for the standard three finger-one thumb deal anyway). You learn too much along the way, yet admire the simplicity and unlimited freedom cartoon can do that animals can not. Someone I know once did this handy chart on how she anthropomorphises her characters in a way that makes the impossible plausible.

Incidentally, Inspector Gadget is Penny's uncle, not father.

Die-anne?

Is it D'arcy or is it Die-anne or Diane?

I know she's gone now but the podcast did a great job of painting around the details of this mystery. What's the story?

Let's go with Die-anne

She prefers to go by Die-anne and she's still here. This is a new podcast and she's on it!
