I remember Gumby!

Paul Reubens' Pee-Wee Herman is certainly meant to evoke that sort of childhood nostalgia we all probably had for shows in our youth, as seen through adult eyes or what-not. The look of the show and it's design is an interesting shift between several decades including the 50's, 60's and perhaps 70's, but certainly one that the Baby Boomer generation would relate to very well through the kiddie shows they were watching like Howdy Doody, Captain Kangaroo, Soupy Sales and so-on, or even the local show hosts in their area that did the afternoon cartoon show or presented scary movies on a Saturday night.

It's been said the idea for Pee-Wee may have came from New Jersey's Floyd Vivino and his "Uncle Floyd Show" program. The show pretty follow follows along the same lines of a kiddie show through slightly sarcastic adult eyes, it's popularlity made it a New Jersey classic for almost a quarter century.

There were stations in the 80's that played Gumby before Nick had it for a while in the 90's. I recall The Disney Channel playing it once around '85 myself but also recall it on WKBD TV50 in Detroit. Aside from thetopless girl behind the door on Soupy Sales, the worst he got caught with was informing the kids to send in "green pieces of paper" from their parents' pocketbooks to mail into the show.

Though they don't play the film entirely, the "Mr. Bungle" in the film was a puppet show the kids watched first, but here's the full version if anyone wonders.

And of course the demented Pincushion Man and the floating Balloon Land up in the air with an uncertainty that makes this cartoon an excellent acid trip!

I love you guys but this had

I love you guys but this had to be the most annoying podcast I've ever listened to. Rebecca needs to be restricted to one drink the future.

I always like Pee Wee's Playhouse as a kid because it was so weird. My parents had little to do with what I watched. Though I do have thing for 60's design and thinking about Pee Wee might have a lot to do with it.

I do remember Gumby being on all the time as a kid. I never got the appeal of it even as a kid. Gumby is boring and the block head are jerks.

But I was a weird kid who watch a lot of 60s Dragnet and thought that was entertaining so take it for what you will.

I have one clear memory of this show.

Even though my mom tells me I used to watch it religiously when i was a little ass kid. PeeWee has a nightmare where he tries to take off and falls to his (implied) death. He wakes up afterward realizing it was a nightmare. At the time however I was really sleepy or something cause I actually thought it was me having the nightmare up until the show ended. I remember what gave away that it was a bad dream was the fact that his bike was a different color.

Also drunk Rebecca is the new zuey.

That smell

1. I may have to swear off women forever, even though men smell worse.

2. I''m still waiting for that "joke." All I heard was a sad dead dog story segueing into a dead kid clutching a pterodactyl.

3. According to DAP standards, Cupid is a demon, infecting the world with his cruel magic.
