Mike should have taken you to

Mike should have taken you to task about the VF-1 not being F-14 sized.

But you got him about the combiner thing.

Good job guys :3

That's true

I don't remember what we actually said, but it's true that the VF-1 is startlingly small. It's only about the size of an F-18 or F-16. (This is probably so that the battroid isn't ridiculously huge.)

You may be correct as

You may be correct as Kawamori has said in interview that he started with the Battroid mode on the VF-1. I think the size gives off the impression it's more a dogfighter and it kept the merchandise smaller so the sponsors were happy they could save on plastic :3

True, but the 1/55 came out before the 1/72

...and the 1/55 was probably a "box scale" (in that they designed the toy to fit inside the box and only later figured out what scale it was.)

I was thinking more of the

I was thinking more of the model kits as I believe those hit the shelves first as per what Renato said in the Takatoku history podcast with stacks of kits confusing people about the importance of Destroids before the show aired XD

1/55 is a weird scale, but there are some classic Tomica cars in that size. Probably just a coincidence but kinda cool regardless.

Flight at Mach 29

DARPA Hypersonic Test Vehicle: http://www.space.com/15388-darpa-hypersonic-glider-demise-explained.html

(Mac+ fans: Note that what happened to the glider is the same thing that happened to the YF-21 and the Ghost X-9. Which means that they were going, uh, pretty fast there.)

Meteor over California (which, amusingly, happened the same day we recorded this podcast, although I slept through it) http://news.discovery.com/space/meteor-the-size-of-a-minivan-exploded-over-california-120423.html

Also the meteor was actually going Mach 50, but still.

Transformers: Lame & Cool at the same time

This podcast reminded me of why I loved/hated transformers. Some form of an overarching plot and hilarious characters and dialogue was great when I was a kid, however it just was a joke in terms of "realism" compared to stuff like Robotech at the time.

I mean what was the story with the ridiculous scale issues in Transformers? Not even trying to understand how a whole team of transformers could fit inside Skyfire and that Space Train guy or whatever, how could Starscream hold Megatron in gun form while in robot Megatron was obviously bigger than Starscream himself??? This always annoyed the sh*t out of me. T his made the toys unbelievably stupid as well and they never interested me, except for Jetfire because I figured out what he really was.

Was it ever explained? Like was it supposed to be some alien metal that could expand and contract in volume?
