Destroy All Podcasts DX Episode 212 - Cosmo Police Justy

Hosts: Jeremy, Mike
This is about adopting the amnesiac daughter of a guy you totally killed, bland psychic powers, and a song that sounds suspiciously like "It's Raining Men".

Video after the cut.
Sure, it looks cool. Too bad there's no story.
So here's this song from Cosmo Police Justy.
And here's "It's Raining Men". Don't even try to tell me they are not super similar.

Yes, that song from Cosmo Police Justy does sound a lot like "It's Raining Men", but it has nothing on Club Mario's blatant rip-off of Janet Jackson's "Black Cat".
When I think of generic anime, I think of Debutante Detective Corps. It's a single episode DVD about five cute, teenage girls who are (get this) an elite group of super secret agents! It's not too bad, but it really has that that 90s cutesy anime style. The character styles remind me of Burn-Up W.
Speaking of which, the original Burn-Up! is kind of generic, but more in an 80s way.. I was actually quite bored when I watched this. Again, we're dealing with only one episode. If this were an actual series, this would be a filler episode. It's like a bad episode of Gunsmith Cats.
I also have to throw Idol Project and Hyper Dolls in there as well, as both are just a catch-all of anime tropes with forgettable characters. Oh my god, I have some terrible anime in my collection.
Gray: Digital Target was always my favorite "the only anime left on the shelves" rental. It was pretty formulaic, but too damn crazy to be generic.
One idea for a christmas podcast: I always remember liking the Talespin christmas episode. That series is often the forgotten child of the Disney line-up, but it did a lot of unique and entertaining things. Like totally reinventing Disney characters instead of just putting them in a new setting, as Rescue Rangers did. The main character was so flawed and unlikeable at times, too. It wasn't very often you saw flawed protagonists in children's action cartoons.
Incidentally, the "reply to comments" part of this podcast was actually recorded earlier as part of the Macross Frontier Movie podcast.
The problem with anime that is generic and forgettable for me is the fact that I can like an anime, but I do forget about it over a period of time, unless I re-watch it every so often.
If I had to point out a generic anime that could have been better to the source material, a good one for me would be the Sol Bianca OVA series. The original Sol Bianca is my all time favorite OVA, which I have on the old ADV clam shell VHS case. I still enjoy it whenever I get in the mood to re-watch it. But that second one for me is... yeesh. I've had to seen it about 2 or 3 times, and after a short while, I forget about what I just saw. The same could be said for the Legacy remake which after a while, there was nothing about those episodes that stuck with me.
I do happen to agree with Mr. Neil on Burn Up OVA, but we did get Tiffany Grant's pre- Evangelion Asuka voice which is some frosting to that bland cake. That can be said for PowerDolls also, which a cool "mech-game-to-anime" video release just didn't turn out so memorable. Of course if these titles sounds like something you guys want to review... be my guest.
Oh yea, you mentioned something about California Crisis... yea, its kinda dumb, but entertaining. You should review that, I mean it. Spoilers: When you guys said something about how that anime might have a story, I literally yelled in my car "NO IT DOESN"T!" Go and see it for yourselves.
