Destroy All Podcasts DX Episode 209 - The Wicked City (Live Action)

Hosts: Betty, D'Arcy, Jeremy, Phill, Rebecca, Zuey
This is about surfing on jumbo jets, a love triangle between two men and a woman, and lots and lots of tentacles.

Video after the cut.

This is the original Hong Kong poster. I'm not sure if this is an improvement on the American cover? The American one is totally amateurish, but so is this. Also, neither of them indicate that this is a movie about monsters.

This is from the original Chinese VHS release. It does indicate that it's about monsters, I guess, because of the cat eye thing, but I feel like it was made by early '90s surfers who were super high at the time.
And here's the trailer! Yes, this movie is insane as it seems. And is it just me or does the music sound like The Legend of Zelda's dungeon music?

Sure the live action movie is minus demon rape at every turn, but with this its "bro-ness" love at every turn, maybe in someway that is considered rape to lead on so much and for nothing to happen.
The anime is certainly a better version, but as I stated in a panel I did for Animazement 2011, I said along the lines of "When you go and watch this, make sure that the windows are closed, the doors are locked, and your in another country" since the anime version is expensive to see because you would need to cleanse your TV by throwing it off the terrace of your apartment (if you have one) to guesstimate the distance to the dumpster down below. I love the Wicked City anime, oh, don't get me wrong there, but that is a anime I would feel the need to spend the week at a temple confessing to man and God of the things I have witnessed for an hour and a half. But, its still not on the same level as Violence Jack: Evil Town OVA, so I consider myself in the clear there.

But as cheesy as this film is, I really like it, and still trying to track down a copy either online for cheap or I could wait in the Goozex que for a copy on DVD. I don't care if it makes NO SINCE WHATSOEVER, its just an hour and a half of pure enjoyment. And if I ever had the power to make a Wicked City remake or sequel, I would try to one up this movie beyond anyones darkest dreams, with the help of Kawajiri mind you. That man needs work. Great review, catcha guys next time.
Tell Mike to stop speaking with an English accent. It's not funny. Everybody knows that English people are just an old wives tale.
I assure you that I am not Mike and that I am quite real, you common guttersnipe.
No offense.
No offense taken.
However, I am an exceptional guttersnipe. Don't think you can bully me. My mother always said that if you don't stand up to imaginary creatures, they'll walk all over you the rest of your life. Like Jimmy Stewart and that rabbit thing.
Well played clerk, well played.
Hey now. I just want Zuey on my show, because she's hilarious.
I'm actually a little embarrassed that I've become such a topic on the show.
