Now I totally don't get you!

Zuey, I got your back! People who dismiss Naruto haven't watched Naruto, especially the Shippuden series. Ed Edd and Eddie is an appropriate comparison, because that show ruled, too. It's way better than Fish Police ;)

Oh, and Zuey if you're feeling lonely, I'll fly in and give you sweet sweet love. By sweet, I mean awkward, and by love, I mean lust.

You made the point last time that "fans shouldn't be writers of the work they love"Now you give examples of a) X-men 3 and b) The Star Wars prequels an your example of a fan NOT being at the helm of a film is the new Star Trek.

Is this opposite day? So you're saying that George Lucas and Brett Ratner are fanboys, but JJ Abrams is not? Lucas is behind the entire Star Wars Empire so are you saying he's a fan of himself? If Ratner's a fan of X-men, then why the hell couldn't he and the writers of X3 get it right? The director of the first 2 X-men films was a much bigger fan, and he did a great job.

JJ Abrams is a fan of Trek and he successfully resuscitated a dead film series. Sooooo, what was your point again? Maybe your point is that you should not pander, to just fill your work with references and fan service. i agree with that much.

Fan service

"Maybe your point is that you should not pander, to just fill your work with references and fan service. i agree with that much. "

I think that's exactly what he's saying; that you need more than "there are lightsabers and droids and Jedi" to make a good Star Wars film, but that as far as fanboy thinking is concerned, lightsabers and droids and Jedi are Star Wars.

Confusion

Sorry if I was confusing, since you didn't like the fans comparison, I tried to expand it out past fans to other professionals who've made the same mistakes fans constantly do when trying to make new installments of the thing they are a fan of. I was also talking about pandering TO fans, which fans-turned-creators are notorious for. Pandering sucks. This is why I was complaining about stuff like the IDW Transformers books.

Emotional impact

I think what Zuey is trying to say is that it's hard to feel any emotional connection to a character that dies in like the first fifteen minutes of a 180-minute show.
