2 comments postedHearing about the first internet rant about the Transformers comics came out back in '84 reminded me of once finding an old internet post from '83 from someone who complained about the end credits to Inspector Gadget being too small for him to see on the screen (probably the first animation-related post of it's kind).
Apart from the releases mentioned before for seeing these Transformers comics, I noticed in my stash that Marvel also reprinted these early issues in "Collected Comics" editions as well (under the "Marvel Books" imprint). These of course don't have the extra ads or letters pages but I suppose it's fine as they are (despite the off-set color printing but I can get over that easy)! They originally went for $2.95 each. I think only two volumes came out under this release.

Certainly seeing these with 21st century cynical grown-up eyes would take away the enjoyment comics use to be to those of us who could see read and understand these 30 years ago. I find it pretty awful how it has been in recent years where the fans took over the industry and made it rather impractical for any young newcomers to fully grasp these at all. I certainly do miss what comic book ads use to mean when you realized how often you've got burned doing things like selling junk and "Grit".
Is that you?
