8 comments postedI don't know whether or not this is worse than the Double Dragon live action movie with Alyssa Milano. (And now that I've mentioned it, you have to review it.) I think I have to give the edge of crappiness it to the cartoon. I truly despise the version of Double Dragon in which Jimmy Lee is the Shadow Boss, a concept that was only introduced because of the limitations of the crappy NES port..
In the arcade version, you still fight your brother at the end, but there is no evil Jimmy. The winner simply gets Marion's sweet lovin'.
And I have to contradict Jeremy on one point. They did pad out the levels in the Double Dragon NES game. They added annoying platforming sections to certain stages, such as the #@%! stalactite stage.
I love it when you guys review cartoons I was thankful for never ever watching myself (or enough beyond the opening credits to realize this show wasn't for me, since I was already in high school when it showed up). All I remember was that there was a Double Dragon cartoon, and that DIC was involved and just didn't care. DIC certainly was at it's lowest at this point in time.
Those Transformer PSA's certainly made the G.I. Joe ones appear more plausible in that dept. I remember seeing that one with the near-bike accident and thought, "Damn, that was something." Wanna see Eric Fensler do someting with that one.
Interesting to see how the iTunes community views this podcast. I was re-listening to that Transformers movie podcast a few days ago and still think you guys rule! You never lost it!
I haven't listened to this podcast yet, so here is a picture of the live action interpretation of Abobo

I remember liking this cartoon, mostly because it involved martial arts, but I'm sure it's terrible if I laid eyes on it again.
Jim Byrnes was Inferno from Beast Wars, too. Pretty much all the cheesy video game cartoons in the 90's had VAs from the Ocean Group. Must be tough finding a good gig here in Canada.
Here in the UK, this show is probably mostly remembered for being a staple of Poundland DVD shelves. As a side note, one of the episodes on DVD was rated 12 here by the BBFC for 'frequent mild drug references'. Who knew a saturday morning cartoon series over here would have a higher age rating than films like 'Vertigo' and 'Where Eagles Dare'.
Gotta love the UK's ratings board. :P
A Video Nasty! LOL
Is it wrong that I found the theme song catchy?
Awesome that you guys were talking about how cool the Atari 2600 box art was back in the day. Regarding Mike's mention that there have been some modern uses of that style, you should definitely check out the cover art for the season 3 Venture Brothers DVD set.
