BGC and comments

Firstly, guys I like the idea of talking about the comments as an addendum to each episode; and thanks a lot for replying to my comment, it's good to know your passionate about your community. :)

Secondly, believe it or not unlike everybody else in the world I too quite liked Bubblegum Crash when I first watched it, albeit this was about 4 years ago and I had only vague memories about the Johnny 5 bot that Priss hung around with among other things.

Also, have to admit I dig the opening theme of Crash massively.

Crash!

I can't quite put my finger on why I'm not much a fan of this. Being different doesn't make it bad, but it felt like things had moved on to a point where it wasn't the same show that a lot of us fell in love with. Perhaps Crash just needs to be judged on its own merit, but it's difficult to do that after watching the original show.

It always felt to me that the animation took a step back. That's not to say that I think any of it was bad, but after seeing the animation in episode 8 of Crisis, something seems to be off when I make the jump to Crash.

I am completely in favor of the Mysterious Cities of Gold. I loved that show so much. I don't think I've seen it in 25 years. And it has one of my all-time favorite theme songs.

Short Transformers episodes are fine. As long as they're funny. Just have to remember not to eat anything when listening.

If you guys get your own site, can we swear in the comments?

While I it was interesting to

While I it was interesting to hear your thoughts about Bubblegum Crash, I was almost more intrigued by your
guys comments on the other comments about the podcast itself. Looking forward to you guys getting your
own site as well.

One more thing, Jeremy while your on the whole Beat Takeshi subject matter and if your going
to do Violent Cop, please consider Brother his more Americanized film as well. Definetly a favorite of mine, if not
no big deal just a suggestion man.

Great podcast as usual guys.

Good podcast

I'll have to check this out. I've only seen the original bublegum crisis. I really liked hearing about your plans for the future.

Some ideas. I'd love to hear your take on Nausicaa. To me the manga and anime are just amazing.

Maybe some more stuff on the giant robot shows like danguard ace, raydeen, etc. I've seen starzingers and stuff but don't know that much about the robots that I collect. Some of them may just be way to childish though.

Also maybe some cheesy stuff that my friends and I love like: Hawk the Slayer, The barbarian brothers, and beast master. Those might not have enough of a japanese tie in :)

Jeremy and Mike have a great rapport. I love that you can talk about anime, toys, and then discuss the development schedule of the stealth fighter back in the 80's. Keep up the great podcasts.

Bubblegum Crash was a good podcast. Always cool to hear a new perspective on it.

In regards to the short Transformers episodes, I really don't know how you can stretch out a review of a TF episode. They're pretty light on plot. Maybe you guys could review an entire season in one sitting. That'd give you plenty of material for an hour or so, and you'd have a lot of bats*** crazy things to joke about. I just started Season 3, and that crap is insaaaaane. Maybe an entire season would be too much to subject your friends to, though, so if you broke it up by discs, as in the collection on Netflix, it'd be a bit easier to handle. Have a Season 3 Disc 1 episode, and then a Disc 2 episode, and so on.

And if you're looking for older cartoon shows to review, check out Kid Video, Cowboys of Moo Mesa, Swat CATS, Galaxy High, Jace and the Wheeled Warriors, and Bucky O'Hare.

Hmmm...

I've been vacillating between "Sweet, a personal mention!" and "dang, I got told!" I should have listened to a few more of your podcasts before commenting. At any rate, this was a terrific review of BGCrash, and I feel more than a bit foolish about my prior comments given the obvious expertise in the media you all displayed in this most recent review. That said (and I fully acknowledge that I jumped to conclusions from sparse evidence) this expertise was not as apparent in the Secret of NIMH review, which is why I said what I did. Sorry.

Regarding Japanese ladies turning to stock trading as a full-time job/hobby, I actually know a few Japanese expats here in Seattle who have done just that. I think it's the combination of convenience and excitement that keeps them hooked, but I'd forgotten until you pointed it out that Linna was doing that in Crash, well before the Internet truly made it easy. Interesting!

Togusa's Wife

Togusa's wife in "Ghost in the Shell SAC" day-trades as a hobby, too.

Imma Crash this charade

For me, its been a long time since I said anything on this podcast, due to well, other things. But I wanna tackle this sweet gal called Bubblegum Crash. And what I mean by sweet gal is the ultra airhead cheerleader that makes the other cheerleader squad look bad, but shes just to fine to fully hate.

First off, great review. Somethings about it I may have to disagree with, but you gave Crash its ray of light that it seems maybe fans of the series are kinda gradually getting around to again, but there are a few things I must say about the OVA.

BG Crash to the Bubblegum fandom is considered the "black sheep" of the family, so much so its only remembered so that it can get a decent meal every once in a spell while trying to survive living off bugs under the crawlspace in the house which is considered the anime library that fans dont know about. Crash has gotten bad feedback over the years due to just means by some fans of the series while the others to them didn't feel like that was a proper way to really end the OVA series since episode 8 "Scoop Chase" didn't have a full closure to the Bubblegum Crisis OVA.

I don't hate this OVA at all, but I have my gripes with it. I didn't think the writing wasn't that great personally, the animation seemed to be crappier by the 3rd episode and I personally didn't feel like there was any means to bring Largo back as a villain at the end and felt totally cliche. My positives to this OVA is the music which granted it didn't live up to the Crisis OVA but it had some good songs that came outta it such as the opening and vocal tracks like "Kiss Me Boy." My favorite of the 3 episodes is Illegal Army since its just seems like a fun episode and the animation just seems so top notch for its time. And if there is one comparison between Crash and Tokyo 2040, the hardsuit sound effects were used in both series.

Ill have to post this episode at alt.fan.bgcrisis and see what the good boys and girls over there think of it. Sorry if this was a bit of a read than the other comments, but that just goes to show how much of a Bubblegum nut I am and had to say something about it. I would be surprised if this gets read on any other podcast in the future and to hear what you have to say about it in your future episodes. Thanks for the review.
