Destroy All Podcast DX Episode 39 - Danguard Ace
Hosts: Andrew, Jeremy
This is about unwanted giant robots, your dad wearing a metal hat, and absolutely no Nazis.
Click [HERE] to be Leiji Matsumoto's unwanted stepchild.
Oh yeah, this is also about the High Complete Model Re-GZ. And if I put this in another episode earlier, oops. This was a last minute fill in episode since technical difficulties kept us from posting the planned episode.

9 comments postedWow, Masterforce.org? That really takes me back.
Me and a couple of my friends thought it was the best site/blog like ever. And it's still (kinda) up on the internet wayback machine.
One of the clearest things I remember about it was in the Sasuraiger review, where Jeremy (Or should I say, GINRAI :O ?) renamed the robot "Sausager".
Oh yeah, about the Force Five DVDs Andrew mentioned, the store he was talking about might've gotten their DVDs from that Wasim guy at Grendizer.net. But he only has the Grandizer, Starvengers, Danguard and Gaiking ones.
Uh, bear in mind Wasim is also kind of a dick.
Anyway, thanks for giving me a HARSH INTERNET NOSTALIGIA ATTACK.
For the record, the Danguard Ace robot shows up at episode 13.
There was a fansub group working on this episode a while ago, but they stopped after episode 7. The show really hammered in how much of a dick the mysterious masked man was.
I did think it was interesting how it obviously influenced Gunbuster.
Thirteen episodes? Jesus Christ! I'm glad we only watched the two episode Force Five tape! That's ridiculous!

Well the super robot may not impress many, but storyline is one of (if not) the *best* I have ever seen in any mecha anime. I would say it even beats others such as Grendizer (yes I know it's my favourite) and Getta Robo/Getta Robo G. Even Gaiking. It wasn't just about robots fighting, but a lot of creativity went into the story itself.
The suspense combined with the whole idea of battling it out for a new planet really adds to the story. Not to mention how at first it was on Earth and then into outer space.
As for Danguard Ace as a robot, it is an interesting machine and I think the weapons are creative, sometimes it can surprise you in its abilities.
Unfortunately, this series did not receive the justice it deserves in the watered down Force Five dub, mind you, out of the 5 Force Five series, I think dubbing was done best in this one.
Someone should subtitle this series in its entirety.

Danguard Ace was my least favorite of the Force Five shows when I was first watching them as a kid, but as I got older I really grew to appreciate the depth of the story, how it played out, and how the characters developed. Even the robot was different than the others. Now I like it more when compared to the others.
I have all the Force Five dvds from Wasim and he's been a pleasure to deal with. I'm not sure what experiences you've had with him, but he's definitely hooked me up with my favorite shows from my youth! Can't fault a guy for that!
I'll admit it's a little weird that he's not doing Spaceketeers...though that show was abysmal, I figured he'd do it just to finish the series...

You keep your stupid comments to yourself, and if you have something to say to me, you say it directly. Don't take the liberty of backbiting people on forums like this as it only illustrates how weak you are. Sanjeev said it straight. Only dogs bite the hands that feed them.
Um, if the flashback scene in Arcadia of my Youth where Harlock was a Nazi fighter pilot really irked you, MS IGLOO might make you physically ill. In MS IGLOO the Zeon flag got retconed from a gold symbol on a red background to a black symbol _inside a white circle_ on a red background. I guess the original flag just wasn't Nazi-esque enough. Any even-handedness of "well the Federation and Dutchy of Zeon are both bad" from the original series is just gone, and it's totally "oh, the poor Zeon".
It's a shame, because the Universal Century mobile suits have never looked better. Even better than the old Gundam side story Dreamcast game. There's a ton of giant robot on giant robot action and space fleet battles too.
Space Nazis don't bother me. Angry listeners wrote in the yell at us when we said Harlock was a Nazi in our Arcadia review.
