For the past few years, Toy Tokyo sponsors a gallery show during Toy Fair for the Four Horsemen, the esteemed sculptors of the MOTU lines, as well as the Outer Space Men. This year was the third year.
Toypocalypse 3
This year the theme was Power Lords, the near-forgotten 80s toy line. The Four Horsemen have bought the rights to the line and are planning a new series of figures based on the classic property.
To celebrate, the Horsemen invited Wayne Barlow, the creator of the Power Lords, to show some of the artwork that created the Power Lords, as well as the toys that made up the line.
As Charles and I went downstairs to enter the gallery, we noticed the room was standing room only. I know these openings are packed but this was ridiculous. We killed some time in the store upstairs and then made another try and managed to sqeeze in.
And then we noticed the cake. And the cameras.
Apparently Cake Boss made a Power Lords cake, and they were filming it for the show. That explains it. The cake was cool looking though.
Once I fought my way through I found the prorotypes of the figures. These are 2-ups, meaning that the final figures will only be in 3 3/4 scale.
The Pre-production art for the original Power Lords was astounding, but I had to keep asking people to move so I could see the artwork.
All of the original Power Lords toys were on display.
And of course, There's some custom toys and art, celebrating both Power Lords and Outer Space Men.

HOLY GARBAGE I LOVE POWER LORDS!
I will absolutely get Adam Power.
Wayne Barlow, that makes total sense. Thanks Chugin. I also just saw that on the podcast. His stuff is so good. I have a couple of his books. Amazing the toys turned out so bland coming from such insanely good concepts.
