NYTF2013: LaQ

JoshB reviewed LaQ's Power Digger here on CDX and he seemed to "dig" it. LaQ is a building set unlike any other out there. While there is literally dozens of "block-type" building sets out there, LaQ stands out from the rest by offering a different type of experience. I found myself constantly attaching and pulling apart the pieces to experience the satisfying click sound produced in the process. I found the plastics to be of very high quality and very resistant to wear, if any, due to constant play. Exactly what you would expect from a Japanese product which is proudly made in Japan.

We happened upon the booth where we engaged a Japanese LaQ rep who spoke some english but understood everything we said. Josh produced his business card which has "CollectionDX" in Japanese. The gentleman read it out loud and through talking explained what the site was about. Through this talk, we were told that there were some LaQ sets being developed featuring Getter Robo and Mazinger Z! During most of the talk I was heavily distracted by the sample pieces they had in buckets. A week later I am still messing with it and the pieces hold up to the heavy abuse. Once those Super Robot Sets come out, I will be in line to get one.

I am most definitely impressed by the simplicity of its design. The plastic feels good in the hand and that "click" is oh-so good. A little on the pricey side and a bit hard to come by, but hopefully that will change this year after more people pick up on how good these sets are.

Check out the whole LaQ Gallery here.
