The thing I was most excited to see from Mattel was, of course, the Voltron. As we all know this is a MattyCollector item, and you either have to be subscribed to the club, or purchase one on-line.
This was my first time seeing the combined Voltron in person. I have to say, it has a lot more presence than I imagined it having. It's really big, and looks very solid and toy-like. The individual lions are huge and the packages are very large indeed.
For the size, each lion looks very simple. The details are soft, and sort of remind me of bath toys. I broke the rules and touched the lion, and the plastic feels hollow but sturdy. It seems to me a thing of such size should have more detail. The opportunities for engineering cool gimmicks into something this big are endless and Mattel decided to go the simple route.
I understand why - cost would be too expensive. I can dream, can't I?
I don't think fans will be disappointed. The size makes up for any shortcomings in the design.
At the Q&A I asked about Voltron Force toys for the TV show, but I got the usual non-answer of " still thinking about it". My guess is that they are waiting to see if the show takes off. I also asked if they would do a Vehicle Voltron, and they basically confirmed that there are no plans.

either their spokesperson isnt a Voltron fan or Mattel isn't happy with this license. He kept his answers short and business like. It seems they went over their heads with this as if someone on the inside was a big enough fan to get them to do all this and now they regret it and are just waiting to sell what they produce and then sit on the license. No Vehicle Voltron and no news on toys from the new Voltron series.. Knowing that Bandai is gung-ho about wanting to make a Dairugger and Golion SOC (and cant due to Mattel having the license, makes me a bit unhappy if Mattel doesnt continue cranking out Voltron stuff while they have the license

That's just about how I felt when I saw the display at New York Comic-Con last year. I wouldn't have thought of the bath toy comparison, but I was really not impressed with the visual design of the toy.
What's up with the guy pointing the finger at the other guy in the background of picture 1?
We should come up with dialog for that conversation
"No, YOU'LL form the head!"
Nice one!
I Still have some faith in this line, the gimmik is intressve but i dont think iw willl be as bad every one is saying it is, from what i have seen the "auto-transform" is only relising the leg that are locked in place. With that in mind i don not belibe it force them to be bricks looking a boxes you see the posiblity is there, not as much as the Toymoni one but i dont mind so much.
looks like he is being chewed out because there is no vehicle Voltron. The guy pointing is saying," Josh B is not going to be pleased!"
hahahha...lol...thats a funny comment and even a funnier picture ^_^
For a second I was sure the guy pointing was Obama.....and telling Matty collector ....we bailed you out ....and you give us a voltron witha gimmick in its rear......not cool bro.....
Somebody please tell me .....the black lion does not have the azz gimmick ..because thats the only way I am buying.
I received my Red Lion & Lance Figure some days ago and I must say that I am very happy with them.
I simply can't wait to have all the parts to form VOLTRON and for the first time an accurate Blazing Sword and pilot figures, including Sven!!!!
Thank you MATTEL!!!!
I feel an urgent need to watch the entire series again on DVD!
