In this bonus episode of the show Adam sits down with our very own Ben Mininberg to talk about how he joined CDX, got into customizing and how a tiny little 3D printer has changed everything as he prepares to launch his own toy-line.
You can check out Ben's blog and see all his fine work for your self at http://prometheusrising.net/
You can find more info about his submissions to the show at the FOE Gallery here and here.

7 comments postedGreat job Ben! These figures that you have designed look like Dougram crossed with the Dorvack power armor. I love it. Unfortunately I live half the country away so I can't make it to the FOE Gallery show. But I'll be following the progress.
Sweet! Congrats Ben!
I watched a old Some Assemble Required shows you were on recently. It's cool to see your "coming of age" so to speak.
I just learned about shapeway this week. On MacrossWorld some members have made their own option parts. Very intresting. I agree with Adam, this tec is where it's at right now. People can do things from their homes they never would've imagined without a big scale big budget
Anyway, I'm off to go check out the links.
Def do a CollectionDX exclusive.
Thats too awesome ..... more, more!! I really like the coverage of seeing the process in action. The future looks bright for customs, imagine 5 or 10 years down the road. One thing they will need to do is to create a program where people can just create things intuitively through shapes and measurements in a simple manner --- without the need to learn CAD or something like it. Also an automatic painting system just like the 3d printer, where you can just use standard paints from a hobby or arts supply store.
Imagine making your own Zentradi Battle Pods , RDF Destroids and your own missile effects for something like Yamato Valkyries with a 3d printer.
I collect Marvel Legends figures and I imagine creating figures of my favorite characters.
Ben keep it up, and keep us posted with mini episodes like this, was very enjoyable!
Thank you guys so much for the support. The CDX color release has gotten a lot of comments, so we will definitely have to figure that out for the future. Please do make sure to check out the show, look for coverage, and check back on FOE's site when the show items go up for sale on their website, especially since it sounds like the weather is going to be lousy for the opening so there should be plenty available for online.
I had a blast doing this little interview and getting to talk about what I've been up to, so I'm really thrilled that other people are enjoying it.
Ben:
Awesome imagination and initiative! Best luck going forward.
Great B-Side Adam.
Ben this is fantastic. I had no idea you'd taking this so far. Seeing your stuff at the summit was cool but you have not slowed down. And congrats on getting a 3d printer. It sounds like that has really freed you up to iterate and just have fun trying things. I hope you'll do more of these!

Thanks so much, Ted! It's been full steam ahead since the Summit, and the printer definitely sped things up. You've been busy yourself, and have definitely pulled ahead of me in the cool factor ;)
