There's numerous mecha OVA that are short and sweet. Try Zeorymer and Dangaioh.
You guys do a great job and I hate to be the nerd that corrects the hosts. However, Adam is a little off on the Saint Seiya spin-offs, prequels and sequels. It is actually a little complicated, so it is understandable to be confused by it.
Lost canvas started out as the official prequel to Saint Seiya. Not only did Kurumada give the author, Teshirogi, the blessings to make the manga, he also helped with writing the story and creating some of the characters.
Then after the Heaven’s Chapter movie did not do so well and Kurumada and Toei had some disputes over how the rest of the Heaven’s Chapter should continue, Kurumada decided to create his own sequel to the series in the form of a manga knows as Next Dimension. The story picks up after Seiya and Athena defeat Hades. Since Seiya has been mortally wounded by Hades and is inching towards his death each day, Athena decides to seek the help of the Gods to change Seiya’s fate. With the help of Cronos, Athena is sent back in time to the previous Holy War, where she aims to destroy Hades’ sword so in order to prevent Hades from being able to stab Seiya during the final fight of the Hades Chapter.
You can see some of the overlap between Lost Canvas and Next Dimension in the main characters- Pegasus Tenma and Alone- appear in both stories.
Since, Kurumada made a prequel/sequel to the original series; he had to kick Lost Canvas out of being an official part of the story. So it was actually reverse of what Adam explained: Lost Canvas went from being canon to not being unofficial, yet still badass part of the Saint Seiya mythos.
Anyways, great show guys! And sorry for the nerd rant.
First off, thanks for the love, guys! It was a pleasure writing with SentaiSeiya, and we're gonna do it again soon! VERY SOON.
Also, I just read Ready Player One last week, and I absolutely LOVED it. I really don't want to ruin anything for anyone since surprise references are a huge part of the book. But seriously, this book was something I had been waiting my entire LIFE to read!
I really want Ernest Cline to come onto the show! It's crazy how much he'd fit in in this community.
Oh it's kind of funny because my review of the renewal version Armored VF-25S should be up next week and I also reviewed the original one.
Fun times are coming.
My most wanted Transformers masterpiece list:
1 - Megatron (re-sized to fit the new line).
2 - Wheeljack.
3 - Jazz.
4 - Mirage.
5 - Skyfire.
6 -Sunstreaker.
7 - Shockwave.
8 -The rest of the Dinobots.
9 - Prowl.
10 - Ratchet and Ironhide (together since theyr practically the same mold).
Make it happen Takara Tomy, I'm personally done with seaker repaints.
I've pretty much given up collecting new toys, (it's getting boring) but that Soundwave... oh my.
That would freaking Awesome if you could interview E. Cline on your show. Extract all the oddity that is Ready Player One and perhaps even ask about the rumors about the movie that is being made off of the novel.
Cheerios guys and thanks for giving us geeks a much needed weekly booster shot ...
