Funimation Acquires MY HERO ACADEMIA Season 2; Episodes to Stream Same Day as Japanese Broadcast

Following the successful first season of the most highly-anticipated, new series of 2016, Funimation Entertainment revealed today that it has acquired rights to Season 2 of MY HERO ACADEMIA (僕のヒーローアカデミア, Boku no Hiiroo Akademia). In a first for the series, MY HERO ACADEMIA will premiere simultaneously in Japan, U.S., Canada, U.K. and Ireland on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Including the premiere, Funimation will present the first six episodes of both the English-subtitled simulcast and English SimulDub on the same day they are broadcast in Japan. Simulcast and SimulDub episodes will both be available on FunimationNow. Ahead of the premiere, a special, Season 1 recap episode of MY HERO ACADEMIA will premiere in Japan on Saturday, March 25. “MY HERO ACADEMIA was one of the most eagerly anticipated new anime series to launch in 2016. It was a big hit with our fans and the #1 show on FunimationNow last year,” said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and founder of Funimation. “We’re very excited to be presenting the first six episodes of MY HERO ACADEMIA -- both simulcast and SimulDub -- on the same day they air in Japan. Author: Andrew Nguyen Ever since the release of the movie GHOST IN THE SHELL (攻殻機動隊, Kookaku Kidootai) in 1995, many anime fans consider the franchise to be one of the prime examples of Japanese animation at its best. Produced by Production I.G, the GHOST IN THE SHELL series boasts exceptional animation as it explores a possible future that has humanity rely very intensely upon technology to function in society. This comes in the form of cyborgs, androids, and the possibility of interfacing directly with the World Wide Web by connecting one’s own body (with suitable modifications) to computers and other electronics. Such capabilities leave the human body itself vulnerable to hacking by criminals in the same way that one would hack a computer. In a philosophical sense, the animated versions have raised the question of what it means to be human through the discussions of “ghosts” that sentient beings have. Continued...
